classical is flamenco in a straight-...

And she just cant break free I think the second anyone tries to institutionlise flamenco they may as well rip out its heart and soul. I knew someone who went to university and got whats called a docterate in 'flamencology', to me the whole notion of this is silly. What are you ment to do with it or whats it going to do for you. Pack it in your bags when you go to spain and rip it out in front of flamencos and say 'see i am a flamenco, this peice of paper proves it!'. Classical is beautiful, reserved, refined and conforming. Flamenco is beautiful, wild and crazy and a little rough around the edges. Classical wants to be like flamenco but is too worried she wont pass her next exam.

Right on Dominic.

Now what I just miss is a youtube video from Julian Bream interviewing Juan Martin.

Juan saying : "Now sat ies diefikult to ezplain in Engliesh"
And Bream: "but you have the Daaaaaahncers "
And Juan: "**** you, you classical nerd, just wait till I rip those nails of and see who has a beautiful tone here "
Bream: "Let me explain it. Can I have your guitar ? " SCRAAATCCH !
Bream: "So sorry..... By the way, is there supposed to be a hole on the back of a flamenco guitar ? ****????****"
Juan: "Hahaaaaaah !!! Very funny.
Let me add this: Is one supposed to fall asleep halfway the "concierto d'aranjuez ? "

And they lived happiliy ever after.

So, like, which is better... Paella or Risotto?

But seriously, I agree with Mr. Romero. Lets not belittle other genres, even if they're not to our tastes. I, personally, have never "fallen asleep" during Aranjuez... but I do admit that I lose interest in a few places.

Oh Jbashorun....Every sentence in my post was referring to other threads in the past. Must I explain everything ?
It was a joke.

Well, concerning me it's not. I'm joking 90 % of the time.
The aranjuez sentence was referring to Ricardo's post where he made that funny video from bream/paco doing a rasgueado.

Well, once you have the paper, you can then start applying for GRANTS (free money) to do "research" in the field. In other words, you get paid to travel to spain and have juergas. You can make fun of the idea, but read between the lines man, it certainly sounds worth the effort.

I didn't get that thread... clearly Bream's "rasgwado" was every bit as impressive as Paco's!

I don't know about anyone else, but I am getting my Doctorate in musicology so I can make $50,000 a year teaching at a University and spend my summers in Spain. 3 months a year...sounds good to me.

please dont think i was having a go at u romerito, i guess my point was that flamenco and classical have two completly different approaches. And to try and approach either with the others method wouldnt be ideal (although it may work for some). The reason these genres are the way they are is because of theyre history and background, and the method and approach is all part and parcel of this.
