Really todd, I found that to be pretty musical.

Great sense of line, seamless changeover on antiphonal lines. Just enough coulour for the style.

And another thing which you might take note of, when she shifts position she doesn't clamp on with her left hand and break the line

If you want technique, Meng Su makes these girls look like students.
And she's 12 years younger than Vidovic.

I think I'll be heading to the Orient for some lessons. Mabybe I would need some of their famous humlity to prepareg to perform a piece that long without slipping up.

I see though that none of them have mastered the cross fingered barre.

Hey Guitarbuddha,

Im now curious, who's your favorite classical guitarist??

I tend to like the less technical, more organic players like Bream.

I dont care for the way he plays Bach, but his romantic rep is pretty awesome.

You know it's been ages since I bought an album of anyone playng classical guitar. I love Bream especialy with Vihuella music and yeah all the old romantic warhorses ( he does a good Sor grand solo ).

But you've set me thinking and I really can't think of anyone who does it for me.
Williams and Barrueco are lifeless and Russell is squandering his talent ( he clearly thought I was doing the same in the one lesson I had with him at college so we're even there ).

Anyway you've set me thinkin I've been listening to some recordings of my playing from years back and I came across my suite populaire brasilienne recorded at a friends house and so I will have to say ( tounge in check ) ME. Since I'm scottish and you like the romantic stuff here is the Scottish choro. (enjoy the scuffs squeaks and general ineptitude )

I guess this is one time I will really disagree with my buddy Todd. I think Vidovic is way more fluid and musical than the chinese girl. Su Meng had her nose in the fingboard too.

I mean that Paganini caprice is so over done I guess, Malmsteen, Fisk, you name it, didn't we just see some other Chinese girl playing the same version on youtube??? I thought John Williams "got the point" of doing variations, and made one of his own, and made it cool and guitaristic sounding, THIS caprice I mean. These folks trying to play the violin on the guitar seem to be just showing off to me. And this girl tried to do the arps like Williams, but it came out so weak. And that pizzicato, not pushing on the frets...just dumb IMO. I mean that section is so pretty, just play the notes. She is fast and clean for sure. There are so many varitions that are way better on the violin. The only version I heard I liked was Williams because he said forget it, the guitar is not a violin. Just my feeling anyway.

My opinions about classical guitarists tend to go against the norm. I always felt Williams was a very expressive player, Bream really got on my nerves. Segovia sometimes very much feeling and things, but other times the really bad rhythm irritates me. I like his Chaccone, but the Spanish classics, no.

I like very much the compositions and playing of Roland Dyens. I guess he is my favorite. But the best player I ever heard was Jose Maria Gallardo del Rey. Such good rhythm and sound and expression. But he just played the Spanish classics, but his own way. But I am sure there those out there who would say, no he is just a machine or whatever, or he was too "flamenco" in his approach.

p.s. I'm not gonna hate on Ana's or anyone elses playing here, although I'm out of my element coming to classical. Actually, we're never in my element... But for real, who cares if someone has their head in their fretboard? Haven't we been over that before? Performance conduct and/or charisma is a bonus for me but not at all necessary.

Oh, by the way, has anyone opened ears on Juan Manuel Canizares' new Albeniz project? I have, and I'm disappointed... He is on a seriously obnoxious bender the whole time, if you catch my meaning, and he likes to scoop a lot of notes, too. Also, maybe he intended it, but his tone is just a little too bright/naily for me. In conclusion it falls very short of the trio's performances on B side of PdL's Aranjuez disc. It's a bummer because the concept is interesting to me.

maybe you are not familiar or not interested but imagine that you have between 12- 17 years old and that bombs and bullets flaying over your head and that you live for few years in the shelter with no water, food and electricity, cause the war is in your town and country.
That is what Ana have in her puberty. and in spite that she become guitar master.
That saying a lot more about her than her face.
