Camaron and Cepero? 
The Camaron episode of Rito Y Geografia centers around a studio session with Paco Cepero, but as far as I can tell, no such recording was ever released. At least there’s nothing currently available. Seems odd that a collaboration between these two would be out of print, though I am routinely surprised by the number and quality of flamenco recordings that disappear into unavailability….

So, what gives? Were any Camaron/Cepero recordings ever issued?

Yeah I was wondering the same thing when I saw that. It seemed like a great session, I think there's no way they could have not released it, especially after he died. After Tupac died they were putting out a new album by him like every year, just every single thing that he ever recorded but didn't put on a CD...I'm sure they'd do the same thing with Camarón. They may have only done like 4 songs or something. I don't know but it must be out there somewhere.

I am not sure, but I felt that episode was a "mock" recording session to show aficionados how it goes with recording artists....whereas the rest of the series the point of the video shoots was to show a live intimate juerga type environment. Even they try to hide the microphones in some cases, everyone always sitting around a table with vino everywhere.

I felt it was obvious that Camaron either prefered or felt more comfy with Cepero's accompaniment compared to De lucias, and made a point to say his bootleg tape of Canastera with Cepero was much better than the recording he made with PDL. Cepero was very diplomatic talking about how much they respect PDL Interesting but that is why I like how Rito gets the good stuff, cutting through a lot of hype, and after all that is said, simply shows you in black and white what was really going on at the time.

The mock studio session is a pretty good theory and would be in keeping with the staged realism that characterizes much of the series.

Is this opinion formed on the comments made in Rito, on other statements, or your own instincts based on listening (or all of the above)? The bulk of my knowledge about Camaron and PDL comes from reading Paco Sevilla’s book, which I recently finished, and which feels like it only scratches the surface. It’s really piqued my interest in learning more.

I’d never really picked up on the subtext on the comments about Canastera, and wouldn’t have if you hadn’t pointed it out- too subtle and insidery, but I just rewatched it today and I see what you’re talking about.

That episode was aired smack dab in the middle of Camaron and PDL’s career defining collaboration, so it’s interesting that Cepero is the featured accompanist. I wonder if this was an accidental, Paco-was-out-of-town sort of thing, or if using Cepero was a deliberate choice on someone’s part?.........

My first comments got axed cuz the power went out! And they were some heavy comments on this issue, I take it as a sign. So let me leave it at, a singer will prefer to use which ever accompanist he is more comfortable with. PDL does a great job, and sometimes maybe too great of a job if that makes sense. You can hear that on the bootleg recording of PDL and Camaron at some Peña, where they both deliver top notch performances. PDL has admitted to focusing on solo playing during this era, because he was embarrassed in front of the singers he accompanied because he was getting more attention....a sign he was not really doing his proper role of "backing up" and supporting the singers....so by his own will he sort of dropped off the scene of accompaning singers in public.
