Koella,
I heard of him in the early 70's and bought his album "Mosiaca Flamenco"...(I don't know if that's the right name here...just going from memory!)
I think he was quite an exciting player myself, on a par with the early Juan Serrano.
They both had a different, younger thing in the sound from Sabicas IMO.
I think he was the one who composed "Impetu".
(I may be wrong here, but I'm sure somebody will pick me up on this.. )
In fact, listening to them both, at that time there was only a hair's breadth between Manolo Sanlucar and them.
Very similar kind of style.
Of course Manolo continued to excel himself in the years to follow, becoming one of the giant guitarristas of our time..

I think Batista was one of the Flamencos, like Serrano, who moved to the United States fairly early on.
(I think he resided somewhere in Florida.)

That's all the info I've got...

Solid player IMO.

cheers

Ron

Yes I like him very much. He has beautiful compas and falseta's.
I have this old recording "festival flamenco" with him, serrano and some famous dancers and singers.
I especially like the guajira on it and am trying to work it out as a solo piece.

RE: Andres Batista (in reply to koella

i thought impetu was Mario escudero?!?

I have videos of Andres and an LP. I think he plays technicaly good but a bit "stiff"
compared to sabicas or others..

I think you're right there Henrik.

Ah...the fading memory of old age...

(Wasn't Escudero another early US Immigrant?)

cheers

Ron's description sounds exactly like Mario Escudero. HE was the one who moved to US, worked with Sabicas, contemporary with Serrano, wrote Impetu, influenced Paco and Sanlucar in a big way, etc, moved to Florida to retire, and died last year.

Batista has a concert featured in Rito y Geografia del Toque available on DVD. Solid player. I remember an interview in a magazine where he remembered the good ol days when he toured briefly with Carmen Amaya. My impression was he was still around.
