quick question how do you dampen strings on the guitar, do you touch the string on the fret itself or between the the two frets?

Myself?
Just between the frets, Henry..
Just as you're playing..
If you hold a chord or anything and just let you're fingers relax, the chord just damps.
Use the pinky to damp the unfretted bass strings by just touching them.
Also other things, like the palm of the hand, or flesh from the side of the thumb.
There is no universal damping.
Just deaden the sound in the most convenient way you can, so that it feels natural and doesn't interfere with the rest of your playing IMO.

cheers

Ron
