Got Grisha's CD!

I got a package from Vgo today, and in it was a glossy new CD with "The Big G" on it. I excitedly popped it in my computer and started listening...

Immediately I was transported back in time, somehow. The cascading arpeggios of the Albeniz, the muscular tone, the sensitive interpretation--it was like a mixture of Segovia and Sabicas. It was like a dream to me, because Segovia was the first guitarist I heard, and I still prefer his sound and feeling. Grisha's phrasing and tone evoked Segovia's! Yet his facility is so great as to ignore technical barriers and continue the musical line that many others cannot manage. There are no audible concessions to technical issues here.

And the Sabicas, a flurry of the most fluid and effortless picado I have ever heard. Wow, Grisha, your picado really is wonderfully developed. And the Paco...the Paco is great too.

One of the things that struck me immediately was the _sound_. It sounded like one of your old, favorite albums. It sounded analog, it evoked nostaligia instantly. I'm no expert, but I enjoyed it a lot. Maybe the only thing I have in common with Grisha is that I like both flamenco and classical. So hearing him, is like hearing a dream fully fleshed--the dream of combining the best elements of these two great disciplines. The sensitivity and musical line of classical with the muscularity and rhythmic discipline of flamenco.

Congratulations, G! And by the way, it's not Grisha Goryachev anymore, it's just "Grisha". Like Cher, like Oprah.

Hi
I just got Grishas CD in the mail. I realy like how he plays thoes Albeniz tunes without that fluffy melow classical tone that always put me to sleep.
Great person, Great CD.

Hope he goes touring sweden anytime in the future.
