A lot of people just have that kind of voice, as some have mentioned. Some peoples voice changes a little if you practice singing a lot. And there are even some that put on a "fake rajo" because they want that sound. I know people personally who have developed the "gypsy" sound as a technique. Also you can hear that sound with Carmen Linares and Jose Merce for example. They can sing also with a "clear" voice if they choose. I think it is a shame that so many people go for that sound, expecially girl singers. I like to hear the different sound singers make, like Paquera, Caracol, Indio Gitano, Camaron, Maria Vargas, Chocolate, etc, each with a unique sound. So many feel they are required to have a certain sound to their voice, and so many sound the same these days. I like Poveda, he uses a fairly natural clear voice, but it is still very flamenco sounding. The female I prefer nowadays for her sound is Esperanza Fernandez. Ricardo
