Henry, I've seen these guys play live, and personally I think they are bloody awesome! I have all of their albums!!! Although I think Ron has seen them too, and was less impressed. its a matter of taste... Ron likes a bit of Radio Tarifa, Jon likes a bit of Strunz & Farah, Simon likes a bit of Ojos De Brujo, etc, etc, etc. When I saw them, the guys were in great form. Rodrigo plays lead guitar with a plectrum. His style is mainly metal and jazz based, but with a bit of Phrygian mode thrown in. Gabriela plays mainly rhythm guitar but Flamenco style, with NO PLECTRUM for 90% of the time. She uses LOTS of rasgueado variations, and golpe type stuff. Occasionally she pulls out a plectrum from between her teeth and plays some solo licks. I don't think her picado is too hot without one! But hey, one of the first things these guys said after coming on stage was that "they aren't Spanish" and "don't play Flamenco". they prefer to cover a broader spectrum, and seem to do quite well at it... apparently they have a "gold record" or two, if that means anything. For those of you that like Flamenco, but have other interests too, this duo is worth seeing. They have many influences, including PDL/Di Meola, Metallica (heavy metal band) and Dave Brubeck (jazz guy) and you will find small parts of these people's music incorporated into their songs. Ricardo compared their sound to Strunz and Farah last time I mentioned them, and when I saw them play live they even played a bit of S&F! Their style is very synchronised- great skill at accompanying eachother. And they are truly percussive... "golpes" is not the word! they practically provide the rhythm parts to their songs by tapping on their guitars. Occasionally the music stops, and the guys just tap out beats on various parts of their guitars. You might frown, but it is tastefully done. Steer clear of these guys if you're a puro-fanatic, but if not they are highly recommended. Jb
