New Guitar

I was thinking of learning to play guitar and was wondering about some feedback on this. I saw the site and decided to drop in. Any information on this would be helpful.

Mercedes learning from scratch as opposed to learning flamenco guitar when you play other guitar genres is very difficult but ohh sooo rewarding. Do you have any musical background? I started from scratch two years ago and it has been a great journey in many ways. New friends (all over the world), new interests, new adventures, challenges ......... Just do it

And welcome to this great place

What sort of resources are available to you, locally? Are there teachers and if so what do they teach? For example, regular 6 steel string, acoustic, classical guitar, flamenco guitar etc.

I could not find a flamenco guitar teacher, so I went with a classical teacher and am learning flamenco guitar on my own, or at least I think I'm learning it.

IMO the path to learning flamenco guitar is not a short one so don't expect to be playing like Paco in 6 months, or for that matter 6 years. However, the journey for me so far, has been very enjoyable and the people on this site have been very helpful.

Who, or what sort of music have you been listening to that piqued your interest in flamenco?

RE: New Guitar (in reply to Mercedes

Well guys, right now I have an electric guitar and play a lot of different types of music. I got a little bit interesting in Flamenco through hearing a friend of mine play but we got into a small discussion and really wondered about it.

Another reason I wanted to know a little about it was possibly combining the Flamenco genre with another genre, Grunge for example, or really anything of the like, so yes I would be starting from scratch.

Gecko: I don't have many resources near me locally so I would be relying mostly on myself as well my friend/internet for most of my teachings in what i learn.

So you are already a jimi Hendrix

Here it is all about Flamenco and the illusive compas and the amount of help and advise you get here if you ask is quite incredible. But between you and me there are bits of Punk, rock, garage, classical, country .. et al that just occassionally pop above the surface. So be careful of the purists and get stuck in and enjoy
