One year since Paco has left...

I cant believe that it has been one year allready
I remember that I heard the terrible.news when having coffee and toast in the mornng.
Every time I hear Paco playing it dazzles me the sheer perfection of every note,
Your music got me into flamenco(and many others), and I want to thank you for that.

People die when they are forgotten, your music will acompany us always,
And you will be with us.forever!

Nunca te olvidaremos Paco,
gracias por todo y hasta siempre.
Ole maestro

A very sad point indeed.

Around the turn of the millenia many unique and outstanding musicians and artists have left us and the world at loss.

On the positive side they will not have to endure the decomposing incidents in the morbid epoche that has began.
The decomposing of environment and human being.

I don´t know whether Paco would had noticed the havoc that the representative puppets and idiots in the west and Asia are arranging and instigating on behalf of god damned short term profits for insatiable sociopaths, but I suppose he would.
And if not he would had very likely come to it in the near future and find himself shocked and depressed about what yet his kids will have to go through.

Inspite the true sadness of their passing; the passed greats of the past century were privileged to experience the cultural peak of modern times and the beauty of an at least superficially intact appearing planet and creature, spared witness of the upper evolutions last and most destructive global state of the earth.

Yes it has been a sucky year for sure since then...but I will admit two things were super helpful in dealing with the loss of the inspiration. 1. His new album, and 2. La Büsqueda....a great film that I revisit often since it came out. Al Dimeola is touring "Elegant Gypsy" now, infact he will be here tomorrow...considering that is the seminal album that had Paco I don't even have the desire to go check it out. Too depressing. I am sure he will pay a nice tribute and we can see it on youtube later.

Very sad, and still sad to this day for me.
Hard to describe to the non-flamenco community just how profound a loss it was.

Hi Ricardo,

Is the Paco De Lucia La Büsqueda documentary available in the USA for
purchase yet? If so, do you have retailer in your area who is carrying it?

Thanks!

Joana

I went to the recording and it turned out to be a very big show called Festival Flamenco Gitano, with an ample cast. I then understood why the studio was so big! Anyway, among great artists such as dancers La Singla, who was heading the cast, La Tati, El Guito, Diego Pantoja, singer, dancer, good-humoured and funniest presence on stage, who lifted up everybody's spirits; guitarists Paco Cepero, Pepín Salazar; singers (I seem to remember) El Perrate and Orillo; and among that lot there was a Paco de Lucía! And, would you believe, I also noticed, singing for the dancers in the group, a young voice of rare depth and pathos: one Camarón de la Isla!

So Paco Peña was actually at the recording of the Album "Festival Flamenco Gitano". I would have loved to have seen that show. Im so glad that it remains recorded for us to enjoy today. Its true that Paco tackled that Panaderos live at a superhuman speed!

Cheers

That was the TOUR but the recording was done in Germany, not England. Rest assured the performances were probably equally good. I will say in Germany he played guajira instead of Recuerdo a Patiño. Panaderos would be the same as we have on the album recorded in Germany.

quote:

On a later visit to London of the company I talked about earlier, Paco, Camarón, Cepero and the rest of the musicians and singers came again to my place; I think it was the year 1971, and I had just collected a new, wonderful guitar from the Córdoba maker Miguel Rodríguez. It was a palosanto, or rosewood guitar, my first such instrument and it was amazing! Paco played it and said it was the best guitar he had ever held in his hands. In that case, I told him, that guitar could not be in better hands, and I gave it to him as a present. A year later Paco told me he had found some difficulty with the tension on the basses (I imagine his whole approach and technique were constantly going forward and reaching new levels of perfection) and it was no longer suitable for him. So he gave it back to me, all scratched up from having been well and truly used! I was very touched by his honesty and integrity. He could have kept the guitar of course, as I had given it to him; but he obviously felt he must return an instrument he knew I also loved.

Great story from PP. I came across this pic on facebook of a super worn out Rodriguez...wonder if THAT was the guitar? EDIT...nevermind, just realized he said palo santo, not cypress.
