The best collection of flamenco song...

Hi to everyone!

I am new in this forum and also in flamenco dance ( I had begun my lessons since 2 months). I would like some tips from you...

what is for you the best collection of flamenco songs? I would like to buy a cd where I could find the best or most known song of a palo...so that I could have an idea of the structure of the palo itself...

There are so many collections, so it is difficult to choose...

Then another question:

Do you know some web sites where I can get informations about the different palos structure?

I found an interesting web site, very useful to learn sevillanas.
It is sevillanas.tuportal.com

Do you know other for the other palos?

I will thank you in advance

Bye

Tanguilla

The best is a subjective concept in flamenco, all depends on taste and what you are looking for, the guitarists here could say Paco de Lucia or Tomatito as they are guitarists but as a dancer I suspect you are looking for somethnig different. I doubt there is an album which contains all the palos anyway, there are over 50 I believe. If I were you I would go for DVDs or videos of dancers. The obvious video which encompasses everything, cante, guitar and baile, is Carlos Saura's Flamenco.

There are websites which give info on the palos and structures. Do a google search, or hunt around the forum for recommendations. Here's one for starters which I found at flamenco world , the online shop, and its in English.

Hope this helps

The best way to learn all about flamenco is to go to a dance shool and learn it. No matter if guitar or dance or singing. You cant learn all at one time. So usually you will need some years to understand it. Take the time. At every shool they allways talk about flamenco... especially the guitarrists know it best I think. They will be able to answere all your questions. Many of the dance-pupil I saw dont know what a 12 beat compas is when they already learned an alegrias. (so talk at first with the teacher, ...and guitarrist. Just talk with all people especially average guitarrists at flamenco-shools they will give you good material.

Some people might not agree, but there is a 2 CD collection which might be a nice start for somewhat modern stuff. It's called "The Best Flamenco Ever." The title is a bit grandiose but there is some nice stuff there.

'Pa Saber de flamenco' ('To know about flamenco') has a good mix - they've tried to give examples of as many Palos as possible (whilst admitting that its impossible to cover them all). Very different styles from more traditional stuff to Nuevo flamenco. The opening track Camaron de la Isla's La Leyenda del Tiempo is a stormer!

The sleeve notes are also very interesting, giving short summaries of the rhythmical variations and structures of the various Palos, and also the 'traditional path' that singers use when performing with guitar accompaniment.

By the way, I have the first CD in this series, but there are three in the series - you can buy the box set on Flamenco World for a reasonable price, see this link https://www.flamenco-world.com/tienda/shop.php?&op_shop=show&id_prod=3839&id_cat=

Not much info about the Baile though.. according to the notes on Flamenco World the series is supposed to have emphasis on the guitar, but the cante is pretty strong too. I'd recommended it.
