Manitas de Plata passed away at age 93

Just saw on a Google news feed that reported his passing away on Nov. 5th. The first flamenco record I had as a kid was Sabicas and the second was Manitas. I didn't realize there was singing on the album and was shocked when I heard what I thought was more screeching and wailing than music. However, because I didn't have much money to waste, I listened to the album over and over again and finally I "got it". For that I owe my love of music whose words I can't understand to him.

He always impressed me (from his album covers) as a man who lived life on his own terms. Criticism of his style aside (not mine) - he certainly expanded the public at that times exposure to flamenco music. RIP.

Of course Manitas would have to out live Paco by 30 years.

That seems totally fair.
