How to make the cejilla stick?

I have a tradtional cejilla which stays in place with some difficulty when I try to lock in with the nylon string. Is there something I can add around the wooden peg to make it stick?

Make sure that the string passes above the knot on the first turn of the peg. This helps to pull the peg down into the cejilla as you tighten it.

Other than that a bit of chalk on the peg might help.

What kind of chalk should I get? The "Conde Hermanos" cejilla tightens very well, but my other one badly.

Somebody probably makes something especially for the job but I just rub a stick of ordinary drawing chalk along the peg.

You could also consider trying violin peg compound (sometimes called peg dope) it's not too expensive.

If the problem is caused by a badly fitting peg though, you're probably stuck with it. You could get it fixed by a luthier or a violin maker but it might be cheaper to just replace the cejilla.

I know somebody who plays the violin, I'll try the violin dope. The cejilla is new, so I'll stick to it. Thanks.

There's a big chance that the hole is to big, so that the peg bottoms out. This I've seen on many cejillas. I commented it in a shop where I worked, but they did not seem to care and sold cejillas that cannot be used.

If it's the reason for the failure, there are 2 ways of fixing it. 1) change the peg to a bigger one, or 2) get another one that works.

When the hole is too big, a possible solution is to cut a piece off from the pegg.
Most peggs are conical ( taper)

Good luck,
Peter,

Thanks for all the reply. The traditional cejillas are more expensive than the Jim Dunlops., but the price for the "noname" is the same as the "Conde Hermano". The Conde's nylon string is slightly shorter but the peg sticks wonderfully.
