Pedro Maldonado Guitar Questions.

Hello all,

I'm new to this site. I was recently given a Pedro Maldonado guitar by my father. He visted Spain in 1982 and purchased it while there.

This Guitar has never been played and only has been out of the hard case a few time in the 30 years he had it.

I'm trying to find out two things. 1- what model it is? and 2 - how much is it worth? I have the original invoice from 1982, but it does not give me very much information.

If anyone know of someone I can speak to about this I would very interested in speaking with them to find out more about this guitar.
Thanks in advance - Bob Navarro

Post a close-up photo of the label and the headstock.

There's definitely people here who can help but you'll probably need to supply a close up shot of the label inside the sound hole, that's fairly important.

The headstock design and what I can see of the label are not those that were being used on the handmade guitars from the Maldonado workshop at that time and the tuning machine plates appear to be of the inexpensive stamped variety. Since the receipt clearly states "guitarra de estudio" I'd say that this is a basic production model guitar made by another facility that was purchased, relabeled and sold by the Maldonado shop. This is not at all unusual. Just about every shop in Spain does the same thing.
I have no idea who the actual manufacturer might be. There are numerous Spanish workshops/factories that supply student model guitars to other shops.
It may well be a nice guitar but it's unlikely that it was actually made in the Maldonado shop.

Thanks to all that have replied. I have attached a picture of the label inside form inside the guitar.

Pedro has a webpage. Why not send the pictures to him and ask his opinion?

Here is a label picture of a student model Maldonado that a friend of mine had. It is a bit different.

He sold this guitar for somewhere between $1000 and $1500 au I think?

Notice, in addition to what I mentioned previously, that neither of these labels is dated. The labels of "real" Maldonado guitars are dated and usually signed and numbered as well in addition to being of a totally different layout from either of these.
Go to www.lafalseta.com and click "Guitars" and then click "Pedro Maldonado" for a good picture.

Looks like you got yourself a student model, you might be able to squeeze 1k outta someone if you can really push the sale......

The label is not signed. Thats a typical sign of this guitar being bought in from a Valencia factory.
There are so many of these guitars around with all kinds of names.

Why not ask your father what he paid? Looks like your receipt says 12,000 (pesetas?)

In 1982 $1=109.859 pesetas so that's $110

That seems cheap even for a factory guitar. I imagine in 1982 it cost maybe $250-$500 new?
