Miguel, Kalo: Any Regular Flamenco ...
For Miguel de Maria and Kalo: I believe both of you live in the Phoenix, AZ area. I am planning to be in Tempe, AZ for four days, arriving Sunday, December 16 and departing Thursday, December 20. I will be staying at the Tempe Mission Palms Hotel. Are there any restaurants, clubs, or other venues that have regular flamenco or Spanish guitar performances in the Phoenix-Tempe-Scottsdale area? I was last in the area a couple of years ago, and Gaitano was playing a regular gig at the Hyatt at Gainey Ranch, north of Scottsdale. I understand he no longer plays there. By the way, I plan to have a couple of dinners at my favorite Mexican restaurant in the whole metropoliton area--Rosita's, at the corner of University and Hardy in Tempe. It is a Tempe institution that has been there for more than 50 years. They prepare tacos the way tacos should be prepared--with shredded beef (not ground beef). It would be my pleasure to get together with either or both of you to share a good Mexican dinner and a Margarita (or two!) if you would like to meet. We can figure out the logistics as time draws near. Please let me know if you would be interested. In the meantime, many thanks for any advice about regular flamenco or Spanish guitar performances in the area. Cheers, Bill

Mosaico, Gaetano's group, did get canned from the Hyatt, unfortunately. There is flamenco at Tapas Papas Fritas, I believe Thurs-Sat. You might give them a call to get particulars: 7114 East Stetson Drive #210 Scottsdale, AZ 85251 (480) 699-5004 Perhaps there will be Miguel Rodriguez (excellent player) there. If you go, maybe I'll try to make it there since I borrowed an amp of his and have to return it. I'll ask around to see if there is anything else going on. I didn't know Rositas was an institution; just last week, I ran into them at a farmer's market and had a few samples of tamales.

Kalo, Miguel, Thank you for the tips. As usual, it looks like all the action is in Scottsdale, including flamenco. I will check out the places you mentioned, although it may be problematical, as I will not be there on a Friday or Saturday night, when most performances occur. I will be staying at the Tempe Mission Palms Hotel from Sunday, December 16, until Thursday, December 20. Again, if either or both of you would be interested in getting together for Mexican dinner at Rosita's in Tempe, Please leave a message at the Tempe Mission Palms and I will get back to you on a mutually convenient evening for dinner. Again, thanks for your advice. Cheers, Bill
