Strange Savarez breakage?

I replaced a set of Savarez Alliance trebles a few days ago.

Yesterday evening the 1st(E) string broke near the nut while tuning. Replaced it with another Alliance 1st last night. No problems bringing it up to pitch.

This afternoon, about sixteen hours after replacement, the other bugger has also broken. And about the same area. When examined, it showed a strange splitting into two strands?. (See photo) I checked the nut for any possible sharpe edges. No sign.

Anybody have any ideas what might have caused this weird 'splitting' breakage.

I have had no similar problems with my regular Hannabach 827's. Or, in fact' with any other strings I use on a regualr basis (D-Addario; Luthier).

Are the Savarez Alliance's brittle, or more prone to erratic breakages?

Anybody have similar experience with Alliance strings?

Here's a pic of the first string that broke. Also shows strange multiple fraying.

Any string experts have any ideas?

Does not surprise me at all. Saverez has always had quality control issues,
at least in my personal experience.

I love their strings, but 90 percent of the time, they either dont intonate,
or they break.

I suggest a nice pack of D'addario J46. :)

They dont sound like saverez, but they never let you down. Not to mention,
if you get the 3D deal, you get them for 5 bucks a pack. Can't beat that.

Recently Ive been using the trebles from a savarez 520 pack (rectified). They seem durable and intonate well, I guess the only minus is that I dont like these strings that much
