Thoughts on the new Arcangel project...

Watched this televised performance of it and have also seen the promo video, but am still kind of undecided...

Love it, but what does it has have to do with flamenco?

Is that frickin' PEDRO ESTEVAN on percussion? The guy is a genius and a percussion god, any project he touches is gold as far as I'm concerned. I approve.

The female vocalist isn't very good, though, that's a shame... the rest of the ensemble is phenomenal!

Arcangel's singing and Miguel Cortes' guitar playing. I don't see why it's not flamenco, its just as Flamenco as it is baroque IMO, and just as flamenco as if they were to be working with a jazz band with upright bass and piano, just here its a baroque consort kinda thing. Spanish music of the baroque era has a lot of relation to some of the flamenco palos so to combine the two makes sense and still seems flamenco to me, just as much as using jazz the expand harmonies and instrumentation. Just that combining it with baroque music is not as common, so maybe doesn't seem as acceptedly flamenco. Just my two cents anyway

It's amazing how this combination of period instruments from the
XVI century work with the modern guitar and cajon.
I like it-authentic, unauthentic it works for me. That's all
I can say...
