Oh..thats sad to hear. I like his music also.

I heard he drove the people who mixed and mastered his CD crazy...coz he never was happy with the result. And the final version that came out was not the real final version...Viejin wanted tore-record all the tracks again but the company forced it to an end... Well I heard that from a person who owns a flamenco journal.... I dont know if its true.

Anyway. Sad to hear because he was one of the most interesting composers. Wat does a guitarrist do when quitting playing? Does he work in a supermarket? Strange to think about..

hey whats tore record ?...thats interesting, i wasent aware but i can understand...he waited all those years to do it, it was his debut album..i can understand him wanting to feel compleatly happy with it..

well u heard that guy from madrid ...hes involved with that cano roto school and teaching...hes done those tablature books etc..hopefully hes doing ok...hopefully he finds enough strength to do another album even if he dosent perform...thats what ****s your hands up i imagine..playing for dancers as many years as he did...if my hands ever feel sore is in the midlle of many long rehershals for a dance show or performing, never at home playing in front of the pc or practicing or recording

He's definately still teaching because a friend of mine gets lessons with him in Madrid. I got my guitar through him as well. It was a shame about him quitting playing. I heard it wasnt just because of his hands but part of the whole "culto " thing as well. I always felt that guy had a lot more than one album in him!

where have u been man lol we been talking about this for years...jesus de rosario, montse cortes, potito, ramon jimenez , el viejin...all this guys are in the culto

its a religios group, a sect that seems to ask litlle more of its followers then the usual, pray and come to church on sundays

No he's not MD...

From what I've heard "El Culto" is a Christian Evangelical movement in Spain which preaches personal salvation through Jesus Christ.

So the Flamenco "lifestyle" is pretty much frowned upon and converts have to clean up their act and quit playing the "devil's music" and dedicate their lives to Christian values.

I doubt if they'll convert "El Capullo" though....the man is just too far gone!

sadly like Ron said i am not minordjango...it sounds too out there to be true dosent it...a guy works a whole life to become a master at what he does clearely loves it and its in his heart and then allows himself to be convinced not to do it...is the saddest crazyest thing i ever heard...i am sure some people will argue theres more to it then that but it makes no difference at the end of the day it still just amounts to that.....

what scares me is that most or all of the artists i really like are in it..and how long before they convince them to give up too...Montse Cortes, Guadiana ( i think) Jesus de Rosario ( there was roumer hes allready decided to stop), David Cerreduela, Ramon Jimenez, Potito...etc etc...i hope i am wrong and i hope theres more to it then that but who knows what really goes on

i dont know ...i just like some of his compositions...i mostly like him because he comes from a big dance accompany background and to me everything he does can be used with dancers....also his rithm is crazy good

hes a bit more "modern" i guess but i dont like him cause of that..hes got some beautiful melodies...

As Ron says the "Culto" is an evangelical Christian sect with increasing popularity. Whereas catholicism is the main religion in Spain it appeals more to the middle classes. The culto seems to attract working classes and gypsy communities. The music tends to be up beat and flamenco is often performed in the ceremonies. Its a bit like the Spanish version of a gospel church. Sermons talk about Christs time in prison for example to include members of the congregation who have done some jail time. They also talk a lot about the problems of drink and drugs.
For this reason members of the Culto are encouraged to stay away from environments where there is a lot of drinking and drug taking going on...and that often means flamenco juergas. It depends from parish to parish but in the more extreme churches, they suggest that artists leave the flamenco scene altogether. Many of those artists are still allowed to teach and record but often only perform for the church. This means no more concerts and certainly no late night drunken flamenco parties....and unfortunately no more opprtunity to see some great artists live.

....i am with that religion that dosent allow me to buy presents for people ....and the one that allows more then one wife....oh god i hope its one and the same

British politicians already do this....

No matter what you're caught doing, (lying, cheating, stealing, corruption, hypocrisy etc) you just apologise and are immediately given a clean sheet and are still considered to be an Honorable Member, Sir or Lord.

After you have been caught red handed and it's published in the newspapers etc, you quickly report yourself to the parliamentary authorities (before anyone else does) to show that you are honorable have done nothing wrong.

Bankers and big corporations are getting in on the act too, since they see it working for our leaders.

You know... religion is so difficult to talk about... No matter what you say...at least one person will be pissed off in the end. So I don´t say anything. My wish not to get cited was only to prevent further discussion about some things I wrote and deleted immediately about religion.. Other people should fight about that..not me.

Its funny that we were talking about Viejin a few days ago. I was jamming with Ruben Campos this morning and he was showing off his new"Viejin" model guitar that he got last year.
So Viejin is no longer selling Condes....hes actually got his own Caño Roto label made to his spec by "Hermanos Borja" in Madrid and signed by Viejin himself.

Actually a very nice guitar to play, what I would call a no nonsense instrument, simple, sounds good, easy to play and half the price of a Conde.

Its a very flamenco instrument...quite light and trebly. Conde has that kind of reverby quality. Personally I prefered the Conde Ruben sold me to this guitar. saying that...the strings were completely worn out. Ruben really hammers the instrument so it was difficult to make a full evaluation. We have a gig this week so when he changes the strings I will try it out properly. Even with old strings you could tell it was very well set up and easy to play, nice and light with a bright sound that wasnt too dry. Definately good value for the 3500 Euros or so.
