Paco de Lucía En Vivo

http://www.flamenco-world.com/noticias/pacodelucia08112011.html

Paco de Lucía releases 'En vivo', his expected return album

The album was recorded live in the Spanish tour 2010
‘Paco de Lucía. En vivo’ also includes a DVD with a documentary about the album

Advance orders already available: 'Paco de Lucía. En vivo' (2 CD+DVD)
Release date: November 29th

Paco de Lucía finally breaks his recording silence. Seven years after his latest studio album 'Cositas buenas', the international master of flamenco guitar releases ‘Paco de Lucia. En vivo’ (‘Live’). The album reflects the massive concert tour he offered around Spain in 2010. And it’s presented as a special edition that contains two CDs and a DVD with the documentary film entitled 'The immortality of a concert' making of about the recording. ‘Paco de Lucía. En vivo' will be on sale next November 29th, 2011.

The repertoire that Paco de Lucía plays in this ‘En vivo’ ('Live') album, the twenty-fifth of his career, is an anthology of his most iconic hits and compositions, reinterpreted from the maturity of a master, with a fluent and relaxed live tempo and with a new band of musicians, among others, the singer Duquende, bassist Alain Pérez, the harmonica player Antonio Serrano, the dancer Farru, the guitarist Antonio Sánchez and the singer David de Jacoba.

The first disc contains ten minutes of ‘Variaciones de minera’, the bulería por soleá ‘Mi Antonia’, the ‘Tangos con cositas buenas’ and the tribute bulería ‘Moraítosiempre’. The second disc includes the rumba ‘El cafetal’ and, with lenghts of about twelve minutes per track, the seguiriya ‘Lagartijo’, ‘Zyryab live’ and the rumba ‘Vámonos’. Throughout his award-winning and successful career, the guitarist from Algeciras has released several live recordings: in 1975 he published ‘Paco de Lucia live from the Teatro Real’, in 1984 was ‘Live... One Summer Night’ and in 1993 ‘Live in America’.

2010, a crucial year

The year 2010 was crucial in Paco de Lucía’s career. And he wanted to be close to his audience. The live concert was presented as closing act of the Seville’s Flamenco Biennial and the Guitar Festival in Córdoba, as opening show of the Festival del Cante de las Minas, and also as main attraction at the Teatro Real in Madrid to support the candidacy of flamenco to be declared as Unesco’s World Heritage. With this recital he also returned -after decades- to Jerez de la Frontera, was head of the 2010 Catalunya Arte Flamencos series and the Vitoria Jazz Festival...

And all this activity without missing his appointments with international audiences. In that season Paco de Lucía performed in countries such as Russia, Croatia, Italy, France, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Holland, England, Poland, Switzerland, Germany... Although the key moment came when, on May 8th, he was named Doctor Honoris Causa of the Berklee College of Music at the Boston University, a merit received for the first time by a Spanish musician. There he felt that honor “legitimated flamenco, the art that I have been defending all my life”.

But its still the material he already released on CDs...I don´tget it..why is that live re-release such a big thing? Nothing new yet.

Well, anyway a very nice release. Since Vicentes DVD I always thought, why arent more guitarists releasing their concerts.. Maybe too expensive.. But would be so awesome.

But you wouldn't know unless I pointed it out....well at least you can hear some of zyrab without the bad luck?

Seriously, I think it is cool, although we have all the material available on youtube with bootleg cel cam shots. Perhaps we can figure out how they piece the album together thanks to youtube. (for example, first 4 mintutes from sevilla, then the middle part from Cordoba concert, the ending from Jerez etc).

Anyway, I for one will prefer the hi fi versions I can blast in my car to the youtube vids, at least as far is audio is concerned. And DVD behind the scenes is a sweet bonus.
