Learning Cante from non spanish back...

hi
i would like to learn to sing flamenco
i can sing blues, some classical and jazz ballads and rock
i have been listening to tientos alot and have been watching alot of flamenco on video and some live performances.
but am struggling to learn the words and meaning of the song form
i dont speak spanish and realize the pronunciation is part of a particular dialect
so anythoughts of ways to overcome this barrier?
is it worth it or just remain an audience...?
or links to words for the basic letras?

RE: Learning Cante from non spanish ... (in reply to mariposa

I would suggest learning spanish, and learning compas for flamenco styles.

I am no expert on flamenco cante so I cant really say anything about it but i think those things would help you get an understanding, also maybe reading some history of the gypsies and stuff like that, there are many recurrent themes that are sung about, because it has been a part of gypsy life.

Please anyone correct me if i am totally wrong here, but this is what it seems like to me

Hope it helps you though mariposa.
