Granaina

I really like melodic stuff and looking for Malaguenas on Youtube all I get is that same E-F song ta takataka takataka takataka... song which I don't like at all.
So Granaina sounds pretty close and I found this which I like. Don't know if I could eventually learn it but does this qualify as flamenco or is it only flamenco sounding?
I'm open about my ignorance when it comes to the flamenco learning 'wall'; because to me, it's not a curve ;)

Granaína is beautiful, one of my favorites! From skimming through this video it sounds like a pretty traditional (and very pretty) granaína to me. Here's another great one from Gerardo:

Not sure exactly where's the best place to go to learn granaína. The intro to Ricardo's tanguillo "Mi Copita de Jerez" is a granaína and isn't too technically challenging. I rather enjoy playing it, it's very pretty. So if you wanted to buy the tab off his site, that's a good place to learn a somewhat short granaína that you can get a lot of usage out of. I think most of the didactic flamenco books (Juan Martin and the rest) also have granaínas.

I'm not quite sure where the dividing line lies in these palos sin compás. The intro and accompaniment of Juan Habichuela here

http://www.foroflamenco.com/tm.asp?m=166164&p=1&tmode=1&smode=1

is flamenco, beyond any shadow of doubt. Vit's piece employs many of the same chord progressions, but to my ear lacks the aire of R. Montoya, Sabicas, Niño Ricardo, Habichuela, and so on.

Here's a link to a description of granaínas

http://www.esflamenco.com/palos/engranaina.html

Alain Faucher (www.affedis.com) has quite a number of books with granaína transcriptions by artists ranging from R. Montoya to Gerardo Nuñez, and heaps of TABs.

RE: Granaina (in reply to Adam

Thanks Ramparts and Richard
I had heard that Nunez one and it is indeed very nice. The other is shorter and seems easier to learn. But I did not know about Ricardo's composition, it is very nice. I just visited his site and like you said he's got tabs for his whole CD, pretty wild. I will get both the tab for this and his CD.
Something to work on for the next 2 years.

I've played one of these guitars in Granada: punchy sound but horrible setup!
Maybe they're suited for Granainas only.

Yeah, my hand but with an addition from a little help from my friend the computer.

Man, I could not buy Ricardo's stuff, Paypal has technical problems with my account. Those damn computers, they help you and they kill you at the same time.

Lucky bastard, I have enough trouble reaching fret 5 when I'm on fret 1!
