Jason McGuire Lessons/other stuff

Hey guys, I am new here to ForoFlamenco (Transfered over from Falseta.com :P ) and I hope I am welcome here at these (Prepare to be buttered up) AWESOME forums.

As my first post I have a question regarding Jason Mcguires online music lessons. My teacher is teaching me how to accompany Cante and Baile and its going great. I have learned the basics and he has taught me a bunch of falsetas that I can incorporate into the accompaniment and I have already pretty much gone through most of the accompaniment stuff on Jose Tanaka's website so I was wondering if Jason Mcguire also had some sort of accompaniment lessons on his website. I don't want to pay for a subscription and be disappointed if he doesn't have what I am looking for.

Also (I went over this with Anthony [at_leo_87] a while ago on falseta.com) but I am having some trouble playing with compas loops. I have no problem playing with a metronome at slow and high speeds and compas loops at slow speeds, but when it comes to a moderate+ tempo with the compas loops (180+bpm) it seems like everything just turns to mush (Pretty much my brain starts to only make sure that I land on the accented beats and everything in between doesn't get picked up). Any advice/tips?

Yesterday me and my teacher where playing over some compas loops, than he decided to bring out his big guns which consisted of this constantly changing Bulerias compas loop at 245bpm with Palmas playing every beat single beat in the 12 beat phrase along with the countra beats. The only thing that was marking accents was this extremely quiet cajon in the background that was unleashing this fury of beats. I couldn't even pick out the 5 accents! I mean sometimes I got but it stressed me out so much I felt extremely embarrassed :P

Sorry about the wall of text

jason has a good amount of dance and cante material on his site. you can always try the 3 day trial. i was a member there and it's definitely worth it. i'll be joining it again soon.

if you have a teacher teaching you how to accompany dance and cante with real dancers and singers, then you are very lucky. playing something a set piece and having a dancer dance over it beats the purpose, i think. it's all about reacting and interacting.

as for compas loops, try playing something with a metronome at moderate pace. really lock into it and tap your foot. sync your foot and playing to the metronome.

now play a compas loop. sync your foot to it first. just tap along. now just play to your foot. you should be able to sync your playing to the compas loop now.

that was the way i did it when i had my first breakthrough.

I wish we had real dancers and singers, we just find a bunch of videos of dancers/ recordings of cante only and analyze and play the %*#@ out of it. Haha :P He says once I am ready he will introduce me to some. (Probably so I dont embarrass him Hahaha )
