Jons Baile diary #3: Gigs!

Yikes, and triple yikes!

The dance classes have finished for the term and I've just come back from a meeting with Mercedes. She wanted to see what I could play more closely (ie without the distractions of the dance class around, and the stuff I play there is pretty basic and repetitive anyway.)

I played her some sevillanas, rumba, farruca & bulerias and to cut a long story short, she wants to work with me - ie paid gigs! Wow! Turns out she works with a couple of other guitarists, but one is off travelling for the winter and the other doesn't live locally, so its difficult to arrange rehearsals. From her reaction, I get the impression that its not often she bumps into someone down here who can play a reasonable bulerias either ;-)

We have a date pencilled in for a show in February if they sell enough tickets, and theres a possibility of playing at a dance workshop she's organising soon as well.
I never expected things to happen this quickly. Knock me down with a feather, someone.

Boy have I got a lot of work to do. I was hoping for a quiet guitar-free Christmas too.

Jon

Jon,
that's awesome! You're doing great... and just think it was only a year ago and everyone was ripping on your "soft" soleares. Pretty soon you're going to be busting guitar strings and frightening classical guitarists!

If you want to get taken down a notch, post some picado in audio uploads! Or better yet some paco Pena.. :)

LOL - you know, I was tempted, but what's a guy supposed to do after Todd posts an example??

Hi Martin - are you 'Martin from Southsea' on the FT board that moved to Plymouth? I posted some stuff there for you about the flamecno scene down here a while back but I don't think I got a response, did you see it?

The gig is a private party in Cornwall, I am afraid. But watch this space for more

Jon

PS welcome to the forum.

One and the same Jon, sorry maybe I should have made that clear.

I didn't see the stuff you posted on the other forum. I have been working some long hours recently so I don't check on the Internet all that often. I will try and search for it.
If I can't find it could you repost?
