Finding accommodation in southern Spain

I have been reading through the forums, and sounds like quite a few people have had experience travelling to Spain to take flamenco guitar instructions.

My plan is to go from beginning of October to end of December. I want to divide this time staying in Granada, Sevilla, and Jerez and take lessons for most days of the week.

I know that schools like Carmen de las Cuevas also arrange from accommodations. However, the prices on their websites seem on the high side (I could be wrong since I have no reference). For example, full room and board is quoted as over $1000.

Perhaps I could save some money finding my own accommodation? All I need is a spartan but quite room, where the neighbors would tolerate me practicing for a few hours. If it's with a family that would offer meals, that would be a bonus.

Any suggestions you could share?

Hi apak. Do you mean 1000 per month or for the 3 months? 1000 per month is expensive. A lot of people in spain only earn 1000 per month. you could find a room somewhere with no meals for around 200/230 per month so food and lodgings should cost no more than about 500 if you search for yourself. The thing is you actually need to be here to do it and be able to speak spanish. If your spanish is Ok then rent a Hostal for a couple days until you find a room. In the cities it is no problem.

This might help for Granada:

quote:

The easiest way to find accommodation in Granada is to pick up and call a few numbers from the advertised spare rooms or flats posted all around the bus stops or phone boots in the city. Spanish students in Granada are often looking for flat mates for the academic year.

Otherwise, you can seek help from the University Services Office located on Calle Doctor Severo Ochoa. University accommodation is not preferable as halls managers tend to be very strict with noise and night hour curfews. Furthermore, the best way to improve your Spanish is by living with Spanish speaking students who tend to rent flats rather than live in halls.

I do remember lots of notes stuck around looking for flat shares but you will have to brush up on your Spanish.

The price listed was 800 euros per month. My thought was that sounds expensive.

Thanks for the tips. However, the thought of finding something while I'm there makes a bit nervous since I am trying to make a budget for my entire 3 months stay. My worry is that I arrive there, only to realize that the most basic accommodation is going to cost twice as much as I thought it would.

Can you take the accomodation for the first month, you'll soon hook up with folks and find a cheaper option?

I'll spend 170 and additional expenses for gas, water, electricity in sacromote,
shared flat.
