Pimiento is very good friends with Manual Diaz and knows a lot about his guitars. Take a pic and send him a PM.

See you in Granada.

Fransicso was born in 1943. He started making guitars in his 20's and was trained initially at Casa Ferrer and later by Manuel de la Chica. This would be one of his early guitars. I would really appreciate it if you could post some photos
1. the whole guitar
2. the headstock
3. the label (the best thing is to shine a light inside the guitar and then take a photo without flash)... and any interesting graffitti inside.
4. rosette
5. heel
6. Any other interesting feature...how are the bindings done for example?
And try to figure out the bracing. His early guitars didn't conform to the Torres bracing and he had a unique system.

Here is a facsimile of his biography from "Inventorio de Guitarreros Granadinos"
- an extremely cool book with biographies, labels and technical drawings of bracings from all the Granada makers from 1875.

RE: a question (in reply to Pimientito

Francisco Manuel Diaz is one of those characters who is little heard of but quite important in the Granada Flamenco Story. He himself is one of the few guitar makers who plays as well. He is an extremely knowledgeable flamencologist and one of the founders of the Peña Plateria in Granada. One of the first guitars that Tomatito played was by Francisco. Jingles main guitar is a Manuel Diaz and my second guitar is currently a Manuel Diaz too. Here are a couple of shots of mine. I'm very proud of her. Its a blanca made froma cyprus tree felled from the Alhambra palace. I personally think its one of his best instruments and has been named and labelled "la inesperada" by Francisco himself.

Here is a few of the pictures ... i'm thinking now that is like yours. i can only send one picture per file... i rescued it from the trash and it had a broken head stock, which i fixed and it is playable. let me know what you think my email is bigbee@tarotcanada.ca
thanks again for your attention and time
brian

the writing on the label is so faint its almost impossible to read it. You can still tell that which is on your guitars label ... it is written in a similar style

You rescued it from the trash??? what a find!!!
Well hang on to it. Are you a luthier yourself? If not I would suggest you take it to someone to clean it up and set it up properly....and dont do any more to it yourself. Its quite a valuable instrument now if it sounds good. Its definately one of Franciscos early guitars. The label is correct and so is the rosette work. It would be interesting to know if its got the Torres Bracing or his own.
Anyway...a lucky find and good luck with her!
