A new offer I make to the foro. Love...

Hey guys, I would like to make everyone an offer.

Some may have seen by now the extremely high standards I strive to hold myself to. And I thought that would have the effect of inspiring people, but maybe it actually had the effect of scaring people off from contributing their own things. Oops, I didn't mean to do that at all!

So here is my offer: upload your own content to the foro. Whether it be a scale, a piece of music, an exercise, or just an idea. Just something you created. I see some (mad propz to KMI77) have already done it, and I salute you.

I promise that whoever uploads anything, I will say only positive things about it. I will use all the power of my mind not to tear it down, but to support it, and notice positive characteristics of it that maybe others had missed.

And if anyone attacks you, I will rape them.

That is my offer. Let's do this team!!!!

okay, i've uploaded my stuff and got my butt kissed my several people who say how great my playing is, even if it is not, it's full of mistakes that could be easily helped with some practice and some good advice...
how will this help me? this is a forum for flamenco enthusiasts, mainly guitarists and we upload our stuff because we expect constructive criticism...
it most certainly won't help my playing if i expect my already huge ego to be further boosted by other guitarists...:)

I don't know, man. I'm afraid someone of your status and with your standards you might be to harsh and make me stop playing guitar.

Hasn't this been done on this forum for years now?

Hi guitarrista,

So what would be your own critique on say... jg's "Picado por Alegrias" ?

on this thread...
http://www.foroflamenco.com/tm.asp?m=134190&mpage=1&p=1&tmode=1&smode=1&key=

And how would you play it yourself?

cheers,

Ron

Yo yo yo, regarding jg's scale:

Think it sounds good. But you gotta do this: ground it in some kind of timing. PLEASE DON'T put a clicking metronome in the background. I know metronomes are useful blah blah blah but I have never seen someone go

"Vale tio, vamos por alegrias."
"Saca el metronomo. Ponlo a las 168bpm!!!"
*click click click click*
"VAMOS!"

So try it like this: play a few compases of just chords to set the beat, then play the falseta. Then play a cierre. That is how the canorroto dudes do it whenever they are going to demonstrate a falseta.

Guitarrista, I think what you are doing is great. Through practicing and developing your musical language, I am sure you will find whatever you are looking for within yourself. I know you realize that you don't need others approval to find it.

I can tell that you have a lot of stories that you would like to express with music and with time they will come out. Don't feel like you need to upload anything to prove that. I get the feeling that people are waiting to criticize you and that's no good for you or them.

Then they will have plenty to criticize in two days when I upload a ****load of videos!!!

PS for what it's worth I think that guy jg does the best job playing flamenco covers of anyone I have seen on the foro, I just checked out his vids on youtube. He got the most compas. If he learned that **** on the internet, he did a hell of a job

HolyEvil put up some alegrías in the other section, perhaps you could help him out a bit, how he could further improve his playing, or if you have no advice, just say positive things, i'm sure he'll appreciate it :)

guitarristamadrid, I thought the picado falseta was even but I do agree with you about playing a few compas sequences before going into the falseta.

Thats a common problem, and its not always easy to anticipate what kind of comments the threadstarter wants to have. Criticizing anybodys playing can hurt the player, or it can make you look bad. Thats the reason i like the challenges so much. Everybody knows that there are critics who will have to make some knowledgeable thoughts and they have to be authentic coz the text is public. Everybody agrees on this and nobody is hurt (except one incident with a judge...).

Uploading something with mistakes is embarrassing, but maybe the only way to get helpful feedback? I thought about deleting all my videos and recordings, but thats not a solution to the problem.

Guitarrista, I did not learn flamenco on the internet. I've watched alot of dvd videos and had just one good flamenco teacher by the name of Jose Ramos in ny. I could not truly realize my potential because of personal issues. Anyway, you are too kind to make such a statement about me playing the best covers here on the foro. I for sure do not think so. You have many top notch players here. Listen to this performance by Grisha playing "Monasterio de Sal" by PDL.
Sorry, but you need to reevaluate your assessment on the best covers.

jg,

Thanks, my friend! I don't think the word "best" can really be applied to interpretation. It is all too subjective and we all have different tastes. Also, music is an art of expression through sounds, and cannot be judged like sports. There are no winners here. As I stated before, I think your interpretations are beautiful. Keep it up, amigo!

Thanks Grisha for the encouraging words. I just always thought that the "best job playing flamenco covers" is the one that is the most accurate note for note with correct fingerings. Like you said though, it is all far too subjective. By the way, I like how you smack the low D in the picado run at 2:57. I believe PDL does the 3 finger picado "tirando". It actually sounds better to me the way you play it rest stroke.

That was beautiful Grisha, what a lovely way to start the day. Harold heard it too and says beautifully played, clean well executed and takes you on a journey, you tell the story. I know its subjective as you say but Harold says you have got it and he is a professional perfectionist. The audience loved it too by the sounds of it.
