dance class.. how do you concentrate?!

went to my first dance class yesterday.. I could follow on the alegias.. but not the bulerias, I get lost on the chord changes that my teacher uses.. and I am not into bulerias so I dun usually practice it..
but all in all a fun session..

BUT!!! my teacher was sitting to my right, 45 degrees, the girls on my left, 45 degress.. I find it SO hard to look at my teacher to see what he is doing.. LOL

I told my teacher that at the end of the class and he said 'you'll learn to multitask" and laughed..

Assuming both of you are right handed, you should sit to his right
so you can more easily see his left hand.

Also- it can be helpful to record audio of his playing so you can pick it out later.

if I was sitting to right of my teacher then the girls would be 90 degrees to my right as well.. hmmmmmmmmmmmm

the video is very interesting.. I will try that next time.. i gotta buy a larger memory card for my camera...

oh- I get it. I think I mean to get him between you and the dancers.
Im assuming there are no mirrors in the studio. Thats a huge help
when Im watching dancers.

When i first started out I quickly realized that you can't really learn to accompany well with another guitarist there to follow. YOu need to do it alone. Of course if your teacher is there to coach you on specific errors that is different, but you can't really "multi" task as he joked with you. You have to just do it alone to really understand. I always send students that want to accompany dance, to class alone.

ahah I think he meant multitask as in check out the girls n play the guitar at the same time.. lol cuz i have having trouble doing that..

By making mistakes and fixing em. It goes quite fast that way. But if you always play with the teacher, then one day do it alone, you start at ground zero from that point on. Sorry, that is just the way it is. People are so afraid to mess up, but that IS how you learn.
