new way to tie strings?

hey guys.. just tried this typing method from
http://emedia.leeward.hawaii.edu/frary/changing_strings.htm
scroll to the middle of the page and go to "Alternative Bridge Tie"

I did it and it increase the quite flat break angle to a substantial one resulting in a louder guitar..

would this do damage to the bridge?

cheers

I'm enjoying your progress with this guitar- you are on a mission to get that lower action- I think you're going to make it happen!

I see on another thread that a luthier has taken a look at it, will you get the fretboard changed?

You can try these

yeah.. I think I'll get the freboard changed in 3 mths, when I go on my 10 wks holiday (yipeeeeeeeee).
I was tempted to just leave it there n then but it'll take about 1 mth and i've only got the guitar for 3 days and I want to play with it alot more..

oh yeah I looked at the beads. but i didn't really like the look of a bead compared to just a knot on the string.. it's kinda like a electric guitar string type of things now.. with that knot..

be very careful of the high e slipping. if you're going to get all those modifications done, you might as well join the cool kid's club and get a 12hole bridge. and maybe a soundport while you're at it.

I REALLY want a 12 hole bridge.. but I went to a luthier but he said that the holes were too close to the top to do safely and that it won't improve the break angle.. (BUT IT DOES!)
but I'll try to check out other luthiers in abit.. WHEN I can find them.. Sydney isn't the best place for luthier..
I'm happy to find Jeff to replace the fretboard..

and NOOOOOOOO to soundhole.. I really hate them.. no matter how much it makes the guitar sound better to the player.. I really don't like the look of it.. yes... i'm THAT superficial! hahaha
just like a real gorgeous girl.. but her eyes are just too far apart.. etc..

p/s- have you decided to get that castillo? =)

i'm no expert but it looks like there's enough space for 12 holes to me. if you want to lower action, maybe you can get the bridge shaved too.

when i told my repair guy i wanted more break angle he said it wouldn't make a difference. he also said that french polish is not worth it. so not everybody has the same opinion i guess

and no castillo for me yet. some pros played my guitar last night and it sounded great. i think there's a little bit more for me to learn with my guitar. plus i'm poor.

Hi HolyEvil,

If it were me, I'd be tempted to drill six holes in a small piece of thin bone or plastic to take the punishment of the knot, rather than just the bare wood of the bridge/tieblock assembly.
But that's more of an engineer's way of thinking than a Luthier's I suppose.

cheers,

Ron

I just did this on the E bass string only. I hole punched a transparent plastic sheet. I then drilled a small hole on the circle thats left out so thats my bridge protector.

Difference. Hmm the action feels lower? More volume and sustain. But now Im buzzing.

I think should install high tension Bass strings then.

Its much more clearer sounding also.
