Good dancers recommendation please

I want to educate myself more about different dancers. I especially want to find more of those i like. Of course i have seen quite some Sara Baras. She seems to put an emphasis on good and clear footwork, i love it! You will laugh but i thought her steps are a bit like Paco's picado i mean shes so clear and in rhythm with what she does...

So, who is doing the most innovating rhythms and clearest steps?

RE: Good dancers recommendation please (in reply to XXX

obviously Eva La Yerbabuena
Antonio Canales is a legend...reshaped flamenco dancing for man
Obviously Farruquito
I like La Truco
Juan De Juan
Rafael Campallo
I like Ramon Martinez's style

but if you are only interested in the precision of the feet and clarity and speed and not too concerned with how the marking looks Juan Ramírez focuses alot on feet, i am not too crazy about him as a dancer but he has great feet and seems to be obsessed with feet and speed

Yeah Saras strength is her feet

theres many many more and newer ones but i cant think of the names atm

Israel Galvan does some fascinating stuff. I love him but not everyone does. La Moneta from Granada is amazing, getting better and better and she was stunning to begin with. Another from Granada who I love is Luis de Luis, makes your hair stand on end. I am sure you will find them all on youtube. And of course Farruquito !

Hmm this is a good topic since I haven't looked at much of dancers on the youtube for a while now.

Like Kate, I'm an Israel Galvan fan. I think he is just fantastic - most of the times

Right I'd better find some more of these stuff on youtube now....

I find I enjoy the excitement and duende of smaller settings over the more choreographed big theatre shows. As with all things flamenco there are different styles and ways to do things.

I've seen amazing dancers in Spain who aren't heard of much internationally (like guitar players) I can't remember many names right now.

Like flamenco generally I enjoy dance so much more live than recorded. Try Luisa Chicano, Rocio Marin, Tatiana Ruiz, La Moneta. Here's some youtube posts of well known dancers that may interest.

Carmen Amaya (also says something of the old school role of the guitar)

Mercedes Ruiz

La Moneta

Joaquin Cortes I don't usually like him but like this (with Anton Jimenez)

Fanny Ara

Manuela Carrasco

La Tati
Manuela Carrasco
Guito
La Singla
La Chunga and Chunguita
Joselito Romero

Some mentioned I have had the pleasure to play for: La Truco and Fanny, and some I enjoyed playing for not mentioned, Antonio Granjero, Omyra Amaya, Nelida Tirado, Carmela Greco.

If you want to see a phenomenal bailaora, take a look at this – it doesn't get better. Watch her hands and arms and upper torso – all the essence of the female baile. Note too the minimal footwork, which the great bailaoras of the past always used judiciously. Carmen Amaya of course was an exception. Unfortunately, Carlos Saura chose to use pretentious camera work with mirrors, which is really distracting, but nothing can diminish great dancing like this. And it's even better in the actual film (Sevillanas), because the video loses some of the graceful fluidity of her movements that you can appreciate even more on film. And check out that killer smile.

Here is a clip of El Guito, mentioned above by Ricardo. See how the slower tempo for Farruca that I had alluded to on a different thread imbues the baile with real majesty. This is both played and danced the way Farruca should be.

I know nothing of dance of course. Part of the reason i enjoy steps more than anything is they are the easiest thing to understand for me.

But i enjoyed Fanny's videos!
Omyra Amaya, i found her website searching for Carmen Amaya long, long time ago. But theres nothing on youtube of her.

Fanny is European, she lives in California, but she's in Spain right now. I'm staying in her Apt. while she's gone. :)

She is a wonderful dancer.

My two cents on dance: screw foot work, watch how they mark por solea. that tells you everything. Aire is in the marking.

There were more great dancers in the past than can be listed, but here are a few more that at least can be seen on YouTube.

Lola Flores

This is a clip from the same film "Sevillanas" as that other clip I posted of Merche Esmeralda.

Another terrific dancer was one I accompanied in the seventies – Carmen Mora. She can be seen briefly in the clip below that I guess a lot of you have seen. A lot of great names in flamenco in this clip, and pure fun – the dancers sing! The guitarists dance! This is what bulerias is all about.

One of the all time great bailaoras – Christina Hoyos. She was also the long time dancing partner of Antonio Gades, and appeared in several Carlos Saura films with him. There are a few clips of her on YouTube, but none that do justice to her art.

Antonio Montoya – "El Farruco"

Just brief clips, but they're enough. I saw him in person several times, but he never really cut loose. I reviewed a troupe that he was appearing with, but he only did a two minute bulerias. I once reviewed his daughter. I can't remember her first name, but I think she appeared under the last name of Montoya. She was a pretty good dancer herself.

HOLY SHISH KABAB!

I went to see Sara Baras yesterday with my fiancé. I don't usually look at flamenco dance since i'm more of a guitare person...
But man, what a show! what energy!! We were at the first raw, we could see their expressions during the dances, and Sara Baras' smile, she was so gorgeous!

I didn't like the cante that much, for the guy. He managed to give me the goosebumps once only. But there was a girl singing as well, she went solo on a farruqa (i think), i had tears in my eyes, what emotion!

Screw youtube, go watch flamenco shows for real, you will cry from the beauty of it.
And I was really amazed by how many people there were. We were like a thousand at least.

Anyways, i don't know much of dancers, but Sara is a killing machine! She rocked the buleria to my bones!

You're probably right, but i cant help it. There is something in the compas that grabs me, like in the beginning of this video.

What she does at 1:43 actually makes me laugh out loud. The anticipation of rhythm, or whatever it is, just attracts me. Also look at 2:24 she copies exactly the rhythm we like to do on the guitar as tapado(?)/muted strings.
