The singing is almost always bulerias Extremeños. The chords often LEAD the singer instead of follow like in jerez bulerias. And instead of C7-F, you often go F7-Bb, and chromatic down 12,2,4 is the typical remate (like Verdiales/Rondeña as you pointed out). Pretty much you can play bulerias stuff, but you should concentrate on making a very heavy DOWNBEAT in 6's, and many times you hit the 12 or 6 and let it hang there. It is not always 12,2,4, sometimes you do it all in 3's, 12,3,6,9, it depends on the feel and the dance, and the singer. The main thing about that heavy beat is it makes you feel the weight of the rhythm, and you simply can't get it going too fast. Like it has gravity you can't fight. If you do you could turn it into a normal bulerias by accident. Falsetas should also not be so funky or off the 1, but should be the the well chosen ones that bring out that heavy down beat on 12 or 6. Falseta melodies like M. Sanlucar's "Maestranza" are good examples, they groove and repeat a theme, also paco's stuff on almoraima. Also you will notice a similar feel in many Solea Escobillas, though the phrasing seems to be half time (2 jaleo compas per one long solea compas). Hope that helps man. Ricardo

there are pretty standard melodies for jaleo extremeño. What sets it apart from basic buleria is the remate. the chorus, where the accents switch to 12,2,4,6,8,10, 12, 1. Lyrically, that's usually signaled by "ay, ay, ay caramba" As in si no me caso este año, ay ay, ay caramba- mE cA-sO el_AñO quE viE-nE (*upper case letters indicate accents) I posted the mp3 in the uploads section, not sure how to link it in this message...
