FLAMENCO PIANO

I have been trying for years to find a copy of any of the great flamenco pianist Jose Romero's recordings, but no luck. They are all out of print, and it seems impossible to find any. If anyone has any of his records, I would kill for even a tape made from them. The titles, as far as I know, were: "Piano flamenco" - "Andalucía flamenca" - "Formas musicales andaluzas." Also possibly any solos by Arturo Pavon, though he was primarily an accompanist. I have an Arturo Pavon CD, "Suite Flamenca," that unfortunately turned out to be entirely orchestral – I had been hoping maybe some solo playing was mixed in, but no luck there. I am not interested in any of the modern day flamenco pianists – I have heard a lot of them, and I have no idea what they think they're playing, but it bears at best a tenuous relationship to flamenco.

Hope you don't mean Diego Amador. He is like the ONLY one that I have heard that sounds truly flamenco to me. But he copies the guitar moves to a T. Cuz he plays guitar and sings too!

Hmm I thought the king of Flamenco piano was Chano Dominguez (?spell). Often have played with Jose Luis Monton and made some cracking records. Chano is pretty jazzy however so not really for purists. But I think is certainly more profound (and older) than Diego Amador (although I really have listened to only one record of Diego's).

I saw Diego Amador in concert earlier this year. He is amazing. As Ricardo says he plays giutar and dances....and sings like a Diva. I was surprised he didnt make a career out of singing...he sounded just like el Cigala.
His show is a virtuoso performance. After hearing a jazz 15 minute extrapolation of solea por buleria He takes the lid of the piano and plays Buleria on the strings with 4 zylophone hammers in the concert....really impressive and versatile musician!
