Prolonged Storage of Guitar in Case

I would appreciate advice on whether or not one should loosen the strings on guitars that are stored in a case for prolonged periods. Occasionally, consulting jobs take me overseas for three or four months at a time. I usually take my "knock-around" flamenco with me, but I keep my good blanca and negra at home in their cases. I have never loosened the strings, and they seem to be in fine shape. But I have heard from some sources that strings should be loosened during prolonged inactivity. Any thoughts?

Cheers,

Bill

It's a myth as far as I know... guitars are designed to be tuned up and sound better if you leave em that way.
