Am I Fooling Myself? 
I am a late Forty something student of the Flamenco Guitar. I started learning the basic flamenco technics almost 2 years ago. I am slow learner and not very musically inclined, but I am learnig, very excited and my love for flamenco music keeps growing.

I purchased The Transcribe software and I am now able to slow down the tempo of some of the music I have been working on. Once I slow them down to around 60 -65% of the original speed and dowload them to my I Pod and then listen to the music I can play along to the point where my wife and kids get impress and can't belive is me playing.

Am I cheating my self by using this technique?

Feel free to be very candid. I just want to learn and be able to play for my own satisfaction.

Nah!! RTC I beat you! I've been learning for two years as well, but I didn't even pick up a guitar until I was 51!

Well listen to all the positives in your post - you are "very excited and my love for flamenco music keeps growing", and your wife and kids like listening to your slow versions. That's all good. And better to play with some accuracy and slowly than race through it badly. And maybe one day it will be up to original speed. I think it's a fine way to go.

One of the best things about me taking up guitar is that it has encouraged my kids to get involved in music too. And they've started young enough to really have some skills when they are adults.

Keep on doing what you enjoy RTC!

Nope RTC,

A lot of the detail, epecially rhythmic detail takes a lot of very careful examination and the ability to slow down a track and look at it carefully has many great benefits.
Worst way to go IMO, is having no rhythmic experience at all and sitting down to a bunch of tabs for an advanced world class piece and slowly working your way through it note by note.

You´re doing good and you have a good spririt. All good teachers say that you have to be able to play slow in order to play fast.

Slow is fast.

Keep doing what you are doing with the slow practice and one day you might just be impressing more than just you family and friends. Don't forget to examine besides the notes and rhythm, the expressive elements. Try to make your music communicate something besides just the notes and rhythms that are on the surface.
