Removing tap plates?

I have a Yamaha CG171SF & would like to replace the tap plate with a larger one. The stock plate does not cover the area I need. I have ordered a 3M adhesive backed plate from "Strings on Line" & wonder how best to remove the current plates. Will they peel off with care or is there a technique to coax the adhesive to release. The plates are clear BTW.
Thanks,
kev

If you dont mind the mayhem you could always just add to the existing one if you know what i mean.

Use a hair dryer to heat up the golpeador and slowly peel it off while heating. Use some goopbegone or naptha to wipe off the adhesive which sticks to the top after the plate is removed. Do not use alcohol, turpentine, or lacquer thinner or you might damage your finish.

Zippo lighter fluid is naptha, for anyone who doesn't know where to get a small supply. Coleman campstoves use naptha too.
