Guitar horror stories

Last week after rehearsal I forgot to close my case before I picked it up and my guitar fell out of the case as I picked it up and hit the wall and then the floor which left a nice ding on the top.

Whats the worst thing that happened to your guitar?

Not sure if this is true or not but I heard that Vicente Amigo once sat on his Devoe and snapped off the neck.

I'm glad mine is insured...

I was able to ram the body of a cheap guitar into a hook shaped doorknob once.

Otherwise I was once excitedly jotting down some notes with a felt pen and with my concentration on my idea I forgot to put the cap back on before letting it fall on my lap. The black jeans were okay but now I have squiggles on the bottom side of my good guitar. But I need a new finish soon anyways...

i have a list where i begin!!!

my father has a 3 story house stairs leading up there i walked up 30 stairs to 1stfloor and dont know how but my fewnder 69 telecaster slid down the stairs one X one, that hurt.

another AT last i saved up and got my handmade guitar, i mobed to the desert to teach for a year, i went on holiday , comeback the bridge was completely off and the fret wires were sticking out from the fretboard.

another Guitar ensemble, we were getting ready for concert, and we used Classical foot stands (like sabicas !) metal, they are sharp bang!!!!!!!! right into my bellido classical.

i can tell you i spoke some french words that night !!!!

Unbelievable...

I was just reading this thread then two seconds later I've gone to get my guitar out, bashed it on the clasp of the case and taken a huge chunk out of the top of it!

i got my guitar out of the case once, someone said, "is that your guitar?" and i said "yes" and it leapt out of my hands and fell on the floor. fortunately there was a chair in the way that sort of broke it's fall, but it got a crack in the back. i had it repaired and it's ok

I had a car accident like that once - this wall just jumped right out and smashed into my headlight.

RE: Guitar horror stories (in reply to Güiro

One night, the bedside table lamp blew a bulb when I tried to get up to go to well peeeee! The room was dark as black ink as I had the drapes drawn, and I navigated thru the room thru to the bath room door but I couldn't find it. I struggled to find a wall so I could go round the room to the overhead light switch by the door, and I found the door but as time elapsed I was ready to explode, and I was ready to dance it to the head! So nervously I tried and tried to find the wall plate and I found a picture that hung next to the door, but no switch..........as I tried to find the door again I lost my balance in the pitch black and fell. And wouldn't you know what was leaning up against the dresser next to the door. You got it my guitar.

As I fell I rocked my folding chair which bumped the guitar it was pitched against for safety. The guitar fell on the floor and as I began to fall I heard the guitar slide off it's mount and hit the wooden floor. I knew what was going to happen. I was going to fall right on it, right on my spine. For fear of severing my spinal chord I arched my spine, and fell right on the face of the guitar, and caved it completely in! But, as it would go I was perfectly happy because I fell into the guitar and not against the sides on my back, saving my life I thought, and I knew I was very lucky. I fell into the guitar with a loud crunch! And I could hear the face of the guitar fold and mutilate right in to the body. I will never forget that sound.........

After I got up and out of the guitar I found the light switch and surveyed the accident, and it was such a sad sight. There was no way to reface the guitar as the sides of the guitar were torn, and ruined, so I kept it and it is in the closet to this day, with the strings still on it. I keep it in memory of the incident and I taught me a lesson.

I installed a night light and I keep the guitar in the case and when it's out it's always on a stand. I advise everyone to do the same. Now I have a new classical guitar, and my family still believes that I smashed the guitar to get a new one, and what hurts is that I loved that guitar and I never would do something like that. And it remains a painful irony to this day.

All I have to say is, oh well...........
Gary

RE: Guitar horror stories (in reply to Güiro

ALWAYS carry your guitar case with the opening side facing your leg. so even if it opens, it'll hit your leg and the guitar will stay inside the case instead of rolling out freely onto the ground.

one time, after a bad show played while i was very drunk, i threw my guitar at another band's drum set. the head cracked in two. thank goodness it was my electric.

im always putting new dings in my nylon. walls, doorknobs, ceilings, belt buckles, keys, etc.

some people say that dings show that you use the instrument a lot. that's just a euphemism for being a klutz and not taking care of your stuff.

***gary, you need this thing.
you can turn on/off your lights plus practice palmas at the same time.

Well, first i was a little bit ashamed to tell this because i thought you might think that i am crazy (maybe i am) and don't talk to me anymore, but now that at_leo told a similar story.....i feel more safe

Last year while i had a "big" private problem, i went totally nuts and destroyed a Yamaha CG171SF at home

exactly like this dumb Kid

Well, i still have the machine head which remained unscathed. Only one screw is missing.
So if anyone wants a yamaha machine head as spare part for his yamaha, let me know.

Yes, thank God i t was "only" a yamaha and not a Conde or something.

No prob Arash,
That's why it's an advantage to be married or have a live-in partner.
They'll do all that sort of stuff for you and save you the bother.

cheers,

Ron

its a war of attrition with my guitar. as much as i try to take care of it, i am always dinging or gouging it. the best is when you notice a scratch for the first time and have no idea how it got there.
