porefilling bindings on a blanca

Any good ideas.

I have used pumice, cyano, nitro, and epoxy. It all works, but its annoying to use so much time on such a little thing.

No one seems to have any better ideas and neither do I.
I use a 'sanding sealer' made with shellac and pumice and apply I a couple of coats with a small brush, sanding in between.

It works for me but, as you say, it takes time.

i dont do any por filling on the bindings of a blanca. what little there is to fill goes with just normal polishing after the first few sessions

Yes, I agree with that and there is little to be filled by spending so much time, but if you want to avoid binding stain on the Blanca wood then you might try a little lacquer with a small brush, on the binding before-hand.

Actually, I used to get a very quick build up on the French polish by adding a tiny amount of alcohol soluble Lacquer to the shellac for the build up, then finish it off with full shellac finish. Usually about 11 to 1 blend but it depends on what brand of Lacquer you use. It's been a long time so my memory fails me on that.

Hi Anders.
I use pumice. It fills really well for such things and I use it on the cypress as well. Not that you have pores but it does suck up a lot of shellac to get to a level surface. I pumice fill the top as well (great for the rosette and purflings). If you put down a sealcoat and use oil there seems to be much less of an issue with color bleeding off the rosewood or whatever you are using.

Sorry about the confusion. I use shellac for a sealcoat, then load up my pad with more shellac and a drop of oil, I then put a bit of pumice on the pad and tamp it down to "clear" the pumice. Eventually you will start getting build up before you have really filled, so at that point I switch to alcohol, oil and pumice. It's pretty simple and on a blanca goes quite quickly.

Still a workout for your arm, if you come up with anything better, by all means let me know!
