Fandangos question

Hi there,

Ok so here's the scenario.... I'm gonna be playing Fandangos de Huelva for dance in class. But there will be no singer. What shall I play for the verses to keep it interesting?
I don't just wanna play what I'd play if there was a singer cos it might be dull without the cante.

Would it be fair enough to play say a paco falseta in that space? provided it lasted as long as the dancers needed??

Hey Stu...the thing is you cant just use any falseta. The dance will follow the same number of compas as the song. Therefore you can only use Fandangos falsetas that fit the song. Some of Pacos early falsetas do this but some do not.

Its always (IMO) best to go back to some very basic falsetas that you know are going to fit. I havent found many on youtube. Here is one example of an old falseta...probably the most basic way to do the letra. The verse starts at 5.50

I use this one of paco from 1:27-1:47 but from there to the end it doesn't work structure wise...so you have to omit that repeated melody that goes from C7-F, and replace it with a quicker C7-F-E7 resolution in one compas length.

usually they want to hear the same chords you would play for a singer, so anything you play would need to be based on those chords.

I use the same Paco letra Ricardo mentions, adjusting the end to fit. it's recorded twice, once on Punta Umbria on Fabulosa Guitarra and again on the live album Teatro Real. If your rhythm is really solid and your picado good and/or the tempo slow you might try the letras from Aires Choqueros on Fuente Y Caudal (also on the live album), again you will need to adjust the endings to fit.

or you can make your own based on the chords

You could try the 2nd tremolo from Brisas de Huelva

Why don't you play something generic, such as this:

When I accompanied classes the biggest challenge was to find something that worked at slow tempo.
