CHECK THIS KID OUT!

Lives about 80km from me. I'm sure we'll all be hearing about him in a few years.

He wanted to meet with me so I could show him something, I told him he'd probably be wasting his time

Cool. Im really curious who taught him, coz his parents are not flamencos are they?

quote:

ich freue mich sehr von unserem Schöpfer mit diesem Talent ausgesattet zu sein

... which translates like: "i am very glad to be given this talent by our creator"

Sinti family, all musicians, learned from his dad and his mom sings, he plays a lot of Gypsy music in any case. He's had lessons with Gerardo Nunez, Rafael Cortes and Lulo Reinhardt. I've read he's played at shows with Rafael and Lulo as well. Soon enough he'll be playing with people much higher than myself.

I'm not sure how experienced he is with the flamenco palos, but I'm sure it's nothing he can't learn quick enough.

The kid's great! I really love that break at 0:33...anyone know what chord he is playing there? I can't figure it out. As well as the rasgueado that comes at the end of that, I've seen it a number of times already..but what is it exactly? Not just abanico, right?

Well, I hate to be the usual old stick in the mud, but he's quite good at some things and really sloppy at others.
He's no phenomeno, but making good progress for his age.
I think it's definitely a bit early for him to assume a name like "Christiano Gitano" and take to the stage as a bona fide Flamenco guitarist, although if he wants to pursue the route of Fusion/Flamingo music, then no problem as anything goes in that stuff.

Personally, I practically switch off when I hear somebody overdoing those power chords and capriote golpes....it's SO f'ing cliched now, and always the same...
Diddly,diddly,diddly,dum...space...WAP!!...diddly, WAP!! WAP!!..space...WAP!!

To me it always sounds like "Wooa!..check THIS out, you wannabee MF's!!"

It makes me hate the player, no matter how good.

I find it irritating and annoying in the same way that overuse of the PdL "woodpecker" gets up Ricardo's nose.

Sorry, but thats my opinion folks.

Yeah...but what does THAT mean exactly?
He's been to one of Gerardos courses?
Wow!

cheers,

Ron

Ron you're being such a stinker!

bona fide Flamenco guitarist

Yeah I'm not saying that, I'm not even sure which palos he has down.

quote:

I hear ya there, but he's a teenager - that's what tennagers do, I guess

Speaking to his father, I understood he took some private lessons from Gerardo.

In any case he was at a PDL concert here, wanted to meet him and was turned down, so he busted out the guitar and started playing. Soon after PDL came out to shake his hand.

I'm not saying "look at the freak of nature, bow down and kiss his butt" it's just rare that you see this kind of talent outside of Spain, and I think it's very nice to see. He was allowed to share the stage with Rafael Cortes and Lulo Reinhardt on some occasion because they seem to feel the same way.

And "Christiano Gitano" would be a fitting name really, him being sinti and all...

RE: CHECK THIS KID OUT! (in reply to mark indigo

I think the kid is greate ( not perfect but some very very strong compas and rithm that came acroos even in poor recording set up)..and so young

and yeah its what you do at that age...show off

but its only "show off" because hes unknown, if he was famous it would just be good playing

you wouldnt tell Paco that hes showing off when he did those 20 minute picado runs.....but that exactly what hes doing, theres no musical value to picado its just to show off

everything about the flamenco technique its almost a show off..thats part of the charm...nothing to be embarrased about

look how fast i can do it, look how loud i can do it, look how hard it is, everyone always tries to outdo eachother with speed, use of the compas etc..

i know we would all like to think that we are all just pure music lovers and its all just about the music only but thats not true, noone whos technique isnt sh*t hot gets to be a hero i heard plenty of pretty melodyes by guitarists who dont get to be heros because the technique is not that hard...we dont respect anything by anyone we can eazely do ...not that much anyway

we like watching a show off hard technique as much as listening...when it comes to guitarist we listen with our eyes as much as ears

Yeah Flo, but that was technically extremely difficult stuff played exceptionally well...even better than "well"....bloody well perfecto!!

You didn't exactly have the same opinion when JM was "showing off" his 20 minute Tarantas ligado at that festival in Oz.

It's hard to judge someone on a couple of minutes Tangos and a sample of a track off a Flamingo CD, so maybe I'm being hasty.
I did like his strong sense of rhythm...
but I still hate the WAP WAP stuff though.
It makes me feel like getting violent and breaking something.

I still think that bursche on this Forum is miles better and he's pretty young too.

and of course Grisha is a genuine young fenomeno!

cheers,

Ron

Sorry i dont wanna sound like i am picking on your opinion, ofcourse u dont have to defend your opinion to me, and i dont wanna compare people because i dont exactly wanna be in this position of beeing the bad guy to bruche, bruche is very good but i cant agree with you on that ...this guys use of the rithm and understanding of it is quite another level, expecially for that age.. ..yeah i wasent crazy about some of his choices either...but thats another thing

my argument is not that hes not showing off lol he totally is but so is everysingle one of us or we try, or wed like too..only because hes young he dosent know how to do it without beeing obvious he gets to wear the label for all of us

quote:

i hear you , so do i kind off... but he didnt invent it, he has different taste to you, he likes it..plenty of other good guitarists did it before him

yes but Paco and Grisha arent the only guitarists that show off, everyone does ...everyone we consider a guitar master is because he shows off, we wouldnt know he was a master if he didnt truth is the "show off" thing is more on how u precive it rather than what he does...because someone could get away with doing really hard stuff without appearing like a show off and someone could do something simple but you precive it as a "show off"

ok thats true ...u got me there , i got no replie to that..the fact that he was wearing a scarf in the summer and took way longher than his designated time might have had something to do with it....i dont wanna go back into the JM arguments
