new video from peña Duende

The folks at the peña Duende in Madrid have uploaded another video, this time of one my favorite singers: Yeyé de Cádiz.

As usual, you have to scroll down until you see the video link. It's down the page a bit, among the January performances.

There was something wrong with his voice that night, probably a cold or something, but he rallies nicely toward the end. Notice the mirabrás he tucks in between cantiña and cantiña. As usual Pepe Núñez accompanies tightly and sprightly. I got a few ideas for cantiñas just from watching Pepe every Friday night (they'd inevitably pop up during Saturday morning practice, and I thought they were my own doing!). We can see his right hand a little better in this video. Notice the singer's nervous but good-natured demeanor. He and a guy named Felipe Scapachini are a real pleasure to watch. I don't know how they do it, but gaditano singers nearly always transmit that kind of positive nervous energy.

That was great Norman, thanks for posting. I like Pepe Núñez's playing - clean and with energy.

Borrow with pride Norman! How much in music is truly original - most of it is inspired by someone. I'm sure he would be flattered.

Thanks, Norman.

I always enjoy seeing these.

Earlier today I was thinking about certain players I really like who play very “tight” when they accompany (Pedro Bacan and Pedro Pena in the Rito footage, Enrique de Melchor) particularly in cantinas with all the apagado and such, and “sprightly” is just the word I was looking for.
