Question about notation

What do Roman Numerals indicate written above notation?

For example, something like the following, at the end of a measure

- III-
----------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------

Thanks,
Jeff

It's actually at the end of the measure, but the forum put the 'III' at
the beginning of the line when I posted it.

you wouldn't happen to be reading that carcassi would you? lol

it means III fret, in this case either the position or a barre

RE: Question about notation (in reply to n85ae

Thanks, ok that makes sense. Actually I did learn Carcassi Etude 7 over
the last couple days. It's actually fun to work on. :)

The Roman Numeral's came from Oscar Herrero Vaiven (Bulerias) which
I am working on as well.

Thanks,
Jeff
