Buffalo Horn Nut/Saddle

Has anybody used buffalo horn for there guitar nuts/saddles?

I've just tried some and found them to be 'creeky' when tuning. I've buffed up the nut on a polishing wheel which helped but they still produce some creeky noise when tuned.
Any ideas how to eliminate this noise?

Andrew
