Any flamenco in Washington?

Hey everyone

I was wondering if anyone here is from DC area, could be Baltimore or Annapolis? If so what is the flamenco scene like?

Most importantly are there any good teachers?

Thanks

ToddK and Ricardo are in the DC area. You can email them through the Foro if they don't respond to this thread.

I live close to DC, but I do a gig on Tuesdays in Baltimore. Are you coming to visit? Send me an email

Hey Ricardo

Me and my wife are actually very likely to relocate there. My company is moving us, probably mid summer, maybe earlier. So I was trying to gauge what's availbale and what resources are there.

I would be losing a teacher a like very much. It's a classical guitar teacher, but the approach is that of Pepe Romero, he used to be his student.
I was thinking that DC area should have more stuff going on than where I am right now, and I was hoping to venture out and get a nice flamenco teacher, someone like yourself maybe .

Now since it's still in plans and companies like mine tend to change plans very rapidly, this is not 100% , just doing a little prep.

What part of state are you in? We are trying to figure out living situation too. The project I'll be working on is 30 miles south/southeast of DC. We were looking at living in Annapolis or Waldorf, but not sure. I'd rather live in a big city but if it has to be a small place I want it to be like Ellicot, nice and historic, and walkable.

Sorry for so many details.
Thanks
Bogdan

You lucky things, you'll be close to the centre of the Foro universe, where Ricardo and Todd are! Seem to recall ToddK lives in Annapolis? You could be neighbours, have flamenco jam sessions every night

hey Todd

Annapolis was actually our first choice. How's the place? Expensive?

I heard that it's very neat up there.

I lived in Northern VA for a couple of years and spent many happy days in Annapolis. It reminded me of an English seaside town. Ummm, yummy crab cakes!

Annapolis is beautiful. Much of it is "Historic district".

Lots of water, boats, bridges, and cool, old, buildings and houses from
the turn of the century.

Downsides are, Its expensive to live here. And its starting to become
overcrowded.
They are shoehorning huge condos into tiny areas with 2 lane roadways.
The traffic is getting worse every year.

If you live near "Downtown" you can walk everywhere, so thats pretty cool.
Again, its expensive though.

I live in Fort Washington MD, so only 15-20 min drive to Waldorf. Annapolis is about 45 min drive east. So Waldorf is closer to me for sure. To DC will be far for you either way (40-45 min drive no traffic). Where I live DC is only 20 minutes or so. I always go against traffic to gigs and things.

Todd
Yeah that's what I heard...expensive. Although it's not only Annapolis. I heard other places in MD are also boasting $450,000 median house prices.

I just would hate to live in some **** hole. Most of our projects are in such holes and require commute if you want to live somewhere decent. So we are looking at different possibilities right now.

Ricardo
The actual project is in Eagle Harbor, so I need to locate something where all is accessible easily and it's decent. Hope that's not too much to ask. A lot of people that work for the company on the project live in Waldorf and I heard mixed reactions about the place.
Well, I drive 40 minutes to my lessons now so 15-20 minutes is actually a step up.
