My worst nightmare come true! (feat.??)

Ok I put this in off topic because I dont really think it belongs in the general section and last time it got brought up Flo ended up leaving the Forum, an axe murdering lunatic was booed off the forum and I got repremanded by admin for identity theft. ....saying all that, and at the risk of poking another stick in this particular wasps nest, I will begin my tale. The day started off with a simple phone call whist I was happily asleep in bed at around midday. It had been a long night and I could not remember the name of the last night club that I had been to with an Israeli belly dancing friend who had a birthday party along with a gaggle of her 20 something year old belly dancing friends. "Diga?" I groaned. It was my friend the wedding planner. Every year I am asked to play for various weddings with unusual requests from wearing strange outfits to learning pieces of music that you should never have to play on the flamenco guitar (like the birdy song for example). Every wedding is different in location, audience etc and some couples spend a whole year going through every miniscule detail about the piece of music they want when the bride goes down the aisle, when everyone leaves the church, when the champagne is served, when the cake is cut etc.etc. "please come down to the office. The couple want to talk to you about the musical items" Having done this a few times now, and knowing that most people dont know that much about spanish guitar music (let alone flamenco) you can steer it generally along the lines of Pachelbels canon for the congregation, "Romanza anonima" for bridal march, maybe Barrios as an interlude and an Alegria for closing the ceremony. However today I got an extra special request. The bride told me how she really connected with the spirit of the spanish guitar and that she had been listening to Flamenco for many years in England and she really really....REALLY wanted to me play... (this is for you Flo) ... a couple of compositions by the great spanish meastro...Juan Martin! "Would that be at all possible? It would really make the day complete." I mean....how do you get out of that one?....and now I have to listen to this stuff and learn it. I wanted to hold my head and blurt out in the office NOOOO!!!! but instead i smiled and said that it might be too tricky but I would see what I could do. I cant go to sleep, I am still sweating....for the love of all that is sweet and holy how do i get out of this without having to stage a horrid accident?

I try to make it clear for wedding gigs What I will do or not, including sound, time of playing, dress, and music of course. I often get requested tunes that are not our style or whatever, I simply say "sorry no". I have not been turned down the gig for that yet. In the worst cases, the bride so sweet and nice you feel bad, I may actually learn a little bit of the melody and stick it at the beginning of a rumba or something then improvise the rest medly into other songs. You know, not more than aboutt 20 seconds of the actual song. Usually they are over joyed by just that little bit...and give a tip. Here in the US I have never once been asked for Juan Martin. Ottmar yeah, G. Kings of course, Alex Fox, and the standard Spanish and Mexican songs of course. Still waiting for the "El Tempul" request. Ricardo

You know, not more than aboutt 20 seconds of the actual song. yeah thats always a favourite, like they ever listen past the catchy repeating melodyes anyway, id acctualy like to experiment once and just play something absoluteley completley different and tell them it was what they requested, many times its just the nylon strings alone that create they idea of what the song was. I have a good , funny gig storry, this is acctually ALo's, but yous better lough at this one, noone aknolodged my last story and it ****ing took me 20 minutes to writte There was this Chain of Take Away Portugese restaurants that have opened here Nandos, now beeing portugese, they decided to use flamenco to promote it as you do. since it was about 8 branches it was a long commitment, it was pretty good money so we said yes, I did some (well one lol) Alo did some.. The Job involved playing in the restaurant, while a guy outside was circulling around in a chicken suit and handing out flyers.lol some of the gigs were in the worst neigbourhoods, on weeknights, on crappy sound, so the reastaurants where emthy, mibe 4 people in at the same time , but we got paid no matter what. the money was only ok if you only used 2 people, so it was a guitarist an dancer most of the time. The funny thing happened to ALo. he said He did this Crazy , Emotional , Solea with a dancer, and ended on a busy rasqueado at the end, full of energy, the guitar mixed with the feet at a fast speed (u know how it goes ) and came to the Finalle, Dancer Did one of those grand finalle !! and Alo said he heard errupting applause, so he looks up to aknoledge it, he says when he did!!!, the sound was coming form a guy that was beating the bottom of his Tomato sauce bottle, to get it on his plate, who hadent even noticed that the Dance stoped lol. brilliant hey i am looking at my storry as i wrotte it, it might not sound as funny writen down but the way he told it.. was hillarious ...serious ...it really was.
