Fuensanta:for Kate

Hola Kate

Last night we were fortunate to welcome Fuensanta la Moneta in the Centro Flamenco: it is 4 years since she danced in Cádiz and 2 since I saw her in Jerez. She seems to have put on more weight? and now has a presence and poderío which few dancers have: she appears to be on course to be another Manuela Carrasco.

She danced soleá, verdiales, an impressive seguiriyas and received a standing ovation. Compared to this young bailaora, people such as Sara Baras or Yerbabuena look like sissy bailarinas!

Great to see dance which is flamenco: I always remember the words of Juan Villar, that modern “flamenco” dance is indistinguishable from kung fu! Fuensanta is from another planet.

Do you know anything about her career is developing?

I have been saying the same joke for a long time now. I too prefer the old style dancing w/out too many crazy cortes. But "on course to be another M. Carrasco..." REALLY?? That good?

Hi Sean

I must have missed this post somehow. Anyway sorry for delay in replying. I was working with Fuensanta's manager for a while and got to see her dance all over the place. She's a very determined woman and works very hard and her manager is absolutely dedicatd to getting her recognition which she most certainly deserves. She'd be pleased that you liken her to Manuela Carrasca. And yes I had heard that she was filling out, all the more power to her :)

We're looking forward to a trip to Cadiz, Jerez this summer some time, depending on how busy we are in the studio. Anyway hope to see you then.

Hear, hear Sean - dead on what I always thought flamenco dance could be and had not caught live before I saw her - she is hard and stompingly hot... astonishing drive.
