RIP Victor 'El Niño Charico'

The flamenco singer Victor El Niño Charico died this morning. Some of you will have heard Victor singing on Emilio Maya's album Temple, he sang 'Caramelo' with Marina Heredía and also 'Cazuela Pa 1500'. I know several members of the forum also saw him singing live with Emilio at the Lewes Guitar Festival and Brighton as well as several members here who knew him personally.

We have known Victor for 10 years, since he was 17, when we met him singing with Emilio at the Eshavira. We enjoyed working with him as much as he enjoyed singing, and he was an incredible singer, he sang every where he went as he walked through the Albaicín where he lived, and he could sing any style and palo there was. He will be sorely missed by us and everyone who knew him.

His funeral will take place at 11.30 am at the Alhambra cemetary tomorrow morning.

Kate

I have the Temple CD which I bought in Madrid. Just wonder how old is El Nino Charico? Did he die young?

Kate,

I'm sorry to hear that. My prayers go out to his family and friends. What happened? was there an accident? was he ill? Very sad news indeed.

What sad news Kate. I was listening to Caramelo only this morning. Was he really so young?

Victor was singing professinally from the age of 13. He was about 27 when he died. He had been in a coma since the summer of 2006 after an accident.

I just tried to upload a beautiful picture I have of him but for some reason couldn't. I'll try again later.

My condolences, Kate.
Today my classmate friend died. His heart stopped. Just before holidays we talked by a drink and he was really enthusiastic about his book of poems he began writing. He wanted to be an actor, we shared a love for philosophy and art. He seemed so happy then...

Ay Matic,

How terribly sad, I know how you must feel.

We had the funeral this morning and it rained and rained which seemed appropiate to our sadness. There was a good turn out, many from the world of flamenco, his neighbours, friends and of course family.

My condolences to you as well for your friend.

Kate

Matic sad news, especially to think of his unrealised plans. You take care.

Pimiento, good to see you this morning, albeit at such a sad event. I just sent you a PM.

Very sad to read all this. So many persons die young. So let us do the best with our short lives, no? Some of my nearer friends also died young in past. Thats very sad, but it makes me living more intensive coz it shows me that it could end every day very rapidly. I enjoy things which I wouldnt in past and many other things.

RE: RIP Victor 'El Niño Charico' (in reply to Jim Opfer

Hi Jim, Sorry to hear you also lost some friends over Christmas. Somehow it seems even orepoignant when it happens during the festive season.

As Doitsijun says the answer is to live life to the full every day we have. I know my friend Victor did that, though that also was the problem

Right now I still have a very heavy heart. I know that is an expression but it is so true, that heaviness you feel from loss is very real.

Thank you everyone for your kind words and comfort.

Kate
