RE: Niño Miguel - recent video (in reply to Estevan

All the best people have had their own demons. Jaco Pastorius, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Van Gogh... The australian artist Brett Whitely said all his artistic and literary heroes were addicts and that he felt a compulsion to destroy his own gift via various substances. Too bad for Miguel there wasn't anyone to help him through, it seems like he's lost the ability to communicate a life of what must have been intense experiences. Then again maybe he'd just rather forget...

@ andresito -
Yes sadly creativity and demons so commonly travel together. But I still find Miguel's playing very communicative.

I agree with Estevan that there´s a lot of comunication in his playing. But this is a lousy video in a noisy bar playing a dead guitar.... So dont judge to much.

Fitted with a proper guitar in a place where people listen, El Niño still rocks. And its VERY deep. He has no nails, so the sound is rough and he´s used to play in the streets where making noise is more important than making music, but the overall message is deep and profound and ten times more flamenco (IMHO) than a lot of these polished guys with long hair in the neck and a smooth and fast picado.

El Niño is a sick man. But he plays and I have reached the point where I listen to his inner voice and it scares me and makes me happy at the same time.

it is flamenco and this is nothing about what country your mother gave you birth. It is what you have become.

I like that Gives me hope I might still get there despite being half Scottish, half English (no Spanish at all).

Anders and Estevan,
you guys are right, there is still a lot of magic in his playing, he was a monster when he was a kid so it's just sad seeing him unappreciated and imagining what he'd be like today if his life had been different

Thomas.

Appereance in not what its about. You migh even find a good gitano with long hair in the neck, open shirt, lots of gold, a Conde and a Mercedes.
