Please welcome ...

... not exactly a new member since I've been a foro addict for quite some time now, though I've only posted to ask for tabs before (thanks Henrik).

I tried my first rasgueado in a beginner's class in Granada in 2004 (ouch, those first rasgueos, dont know what hurt the most, pride or fingers) and even had a couple of private classes with a BIG but friendly young gitano by the name of Rafael, who played regularly at one of the caves up in Sacromonte. Brilliant player and teacher -- I would strum a chord, he would just shake his head very slowly, and say, let's do it again, but RIGHT this time.

Well, I bought myself a guitar, had no idea what to look for, so I just tried a lot of guitars and ended up with a Quiles CF-1 blanca, which I've been really happy with, especially after I had the action lowered. (Anybody know of these guitars?)

So I got back to Norway (am I the only norwegian around here?) with my blanca and a Manuel Granados book, started to work my way through it, very slowly and painstakingly, and was able to play some of it, but ... ah, you know, that sound, that punch and brilliancy and whatever ... I just didn't get it at all and was really about to give up and go back to playing my old Tom Waits and Neil Young crooners. Then about a year ago, I dicovered youytube, and typed flamenco guitar, and saw Tomatito playing La Andonda. BAng, was I hooked again.

After the obligatory noobie google search for fast picado, I found the foro, and since then you guys have literally been my teachers. So for now I really just wanted to say thank you, and let you know that in the middle of all the crazy stuff you have going here, you're actually teaching people to play. Which really is someting to be proud of.

Nice of you to try and diffuse the circus.

Are you going to post an audio soon? I started practicing in 2004 too - now there is no going back. Would love to hear you play!

Kate, that's the bitter reality for a cold norwegian flamenco in late november. Coughing on 6, 8, 10 and 12, and then sneezing my head off on 3.

Ramirez, my 2004-buddy, at the moment I don't have the equipment or skill to make any audios or videos. But I will get something together soon, and I promise to upload someting then, if you do too. I mean, what's there to be afraid of.

Yes a warm welcome to you. There are many genuine people here, who will bend over backwards to help you.

Hi Farus,
Years ago I worked on a Seismic Exploration ship for a year going up and down the coast of Norway from Bergen to Tromso.
One of the young (16 years old) seamen begged me to show him some chords, so I exchanged the lessons for some Norwegian language lessons.
I started from basics and eventually got him up to playing "The House of the Rising Sun".
I must admit he was a really keen student and just absorbed everything.
Thereafter, our leave rota was staggered and I didn't see him until 3 months later.
I was totally amazed to hear him play brilliantly including "shred" stuff very,very well and to hear that he had formed a Band in Tromso playing Bars and getting the girls!

(Little B*stard...

)

All I was left with was..
Onsdag,
Tursdag,
Odensdag,
Tursdag
And I can't remember the rest...

I always like to think he'll remember me like I remember my first guitar teacher.

Beautiful country, especially the extreme North.

Edit: I see I have Tursdag down twice.
Either the Norwegians have a 6 day week or I've got something wrong?

Yes, Henrik, I know there's something going on in Oslo, and I'm not too far away from there, hour and a half by bus, so I guess its time I make some contacts there.

Ron, seems you were left with some bad material there: it's mandag, tirsdag, onsdag, torsdag, fredag, lørdag søndag. Today's fredag, a day very suited for drinking( too much), smoking (though i've quit) and talking **** (never gonna quit that one). Nice of you to teach the guy, though.

Hello Farus!

Nice to hear from more flamenco playing people up north (I'm in stockholm). I would love to do this one thing.. gather up people in the area, sort of at my own level and discuss flamenco things, show each other stuff in a totally informal way. I know there are people around who aren't all light years ahead, it's just that they seem to keep a very low profile.. (if any lurking swede reads this, please reveal yourself :D) Always having the student/teacher relationship to people playing flamenco guitar feels kinda lonely.

I'm also playing a Quiles. Though not the blanca, I have the cedar SF-1. Good value for the money.

BTW A while ago I was thinking that we have Danish, Swedish and Finnish folk here, but no Norwegians...(why?)
