Flamenco IS a drug!

Regarding recent posts and certain substances, what about the amazing effect you can get from flamenco itself! Yesterday, I took three classes in a row - with Olga Pericet, Daniel Dona and Marco Flores. Not sure of the equivalent for guitarists but about 2hrs in got that amazing feeling when my brain had totally switched off and yet somehow my feet and body were just mirroring whatever the teachers wanted me to do. Could hardly walk after the second class but somehow kept going for the third and ened up sitting in the sun with a glass of wine on a total high!

And all of this - including the sun(!!) was in Birmingham, England!

OMG I am so sick with jealousy.

I really wanted to come up this weekend but have been laid low with a stupid infection - on my third course of antibiotics.

It's just so inspiring to work with a great teacher and I missed it

I agree completely!!
But perhaps a guitarists "flamenco drug" is slightly different. I don't necessarily have the adrenalin rush that one gets from a vigorous physical workout when I play guitar for a lenghty period. For me its more mental or spiritual or something, but I'm definately addicted and its probably the first addiction I've ever had that isn't gonna destroy my brain cells, lungs or nose!

In the same way a drug habit can make one unsociable, my love of flamenco does the same. Most of my close friends wouldn't know a rumba from a rondena and when I tell them I'm only staying out for one drink because I want to go practice, They don't quite get it!

And a couple of nights ago my work colleagues organised a bowling evening. I discovered that as I drop the ball it bends my index nail back and I was completely freaked that it was gonna break. So I started doing it deliberately wrong to try and save my nail. They thought I was mad. And it didn't work - lost the nail anyway.

Doitsujin - if you mean did I want every English based person on the forum to know what great things are going on in Birmingham, then I guess it was a commercial - though I prefer to call it 'sharing knowledge'.

Ailsa - sorry to hear about your nail. I had to give up playing football cos bruises and flamenco dresses don't go so well together!

Manzmann - glad to hear there is an equivalent for guitarists. Am still feeling quite 'high' today - though my legs are killing me!! Karenanne

same thing used to happen to me, esp with frisbee. but then i tore some ligaments and messed up some tendons in bowling... needless to say, i haven'tbroken any nails due to bowling in a looooong time lol
