tightness in palm from practice

i was doing alzapua last night and alternating between that and pulgar & picado for a technique practice session of an hour.i normally only do 45-30 mins of technique practice.

my hand on the inside of the palm feels very tight this morning, especialy near where the thumb meets the palm, is this normal? or does it go away after time?

i think your playing may be a bit too tense, it's normal after a session to feel some minor pain, but it shouldn't last until the next day...
alzapúa imho is more about wrist movement than thumb, you're possibly working too much from your thumb instead of the whole hand/wrist...

If you never feel any stiff sore muscles, then you're not working them enough
to develop them. On the other hand if you are always sore, then you're
maybe overdoing it. Flamenco guitar requires muscles, and if you're learning
flamenco techniques there's no way around the feeling like your hand just had
a serious wrorkuot.

That's my opinion anyway.

Henry,
After a month of heavy DIY, including lifting a whole floor and replacing it, plus trying to seal my garage roof and various scraping and repainting jobs, my whole f*ing body aches, not only my hands!
Getting a bit of muscular pain is normal when doing actions you are not really used to.
Thing is to know when something feels "worked out", from "irritated and inflamed".
Continuing to practise with the latter is just plain silly and will obviously lead to more harm.

PS:
I know a lot of folk who suffer from "tightness in palm" when it comes to buying a round....and yes, it is also due to practice!

Your findings are not surprising. "Tightness in palm" syndrome is reputedly quite prevalent north of the border ....

hands ok today, i assume its just muscle fatigue again, ill def try to put more wrist into the movement

I think you should probably take it easy and reassess your technique. I've had numerous surgeries to correct problems from poor practice habits. My recommendation for everyone who plays an instrument is to get ahold of Dr. Farias's Practice Without Playing. It will help you enormously.
