On Audio/Video uploads

A few people have mentioned that they'd like to see some kind of separation between members uploads and links to things like clips of PdL, Vincente etc.

I can definitely see the point...that an intermediate player uploads a few falsetas that they've been working on for weeks and weeks only to find that the next post is a youtube link to some amazing performance by Gerardo or PdL, crushing their meagre attempt like a big Monty Python boot!

It must also be disheartening to find that all the comments are on the amazing youtube clip and their own attempt has been overshadowed or even ignored.

Rather than starting yet another forum, what do members think of this....

We keep the Audio/Video uploads forum strictly for members own stuff for comments etc.

Links to professional performances and clips should be posted in the General forum.

This would make the A/V uploads forum less cluttered and easier to browse through too.

What do you think?

cheers,

Ron

I agree with you 100 %

or atlist members who do upload make sure u write something in the title that indicates that its you playing, a few members do anyway and it makes things so nice, like Buleria by Henrik or Barrio de Vina by Koella etc.

from now on i am always going to add my name to the title

I for one would like to know as sometimes i go past the Professionals video posts, one because my connection is too slow and two because i am more interested on what my fellow members are doing.

Well... i am interested in what the pros are doing too

Why not make a "link" only section ? That way people, who want to find out what's new on youtube, can just scroll the list, without having to scroll through other posts.

RE: On Audio/Video uploads (in reply to Ron.M

This is definately a good idea.

I would love to see a clear distinction between member vids/audio and the pros.
I've never posted a vid so perhaps I'm not in the best position to be talking but I do love that section especially checking out other members work.

Would posting youtube/pro vids in the general section be a good idea?? perhaps it would clutter up that section?

One other thing on the subject.... is there any way we can specify if the post is video or audio?? Often when I'm browsing for members videos I end up with loads of audio or vice versa. I know there is that camera symbol but doesn't get used that much. Any way you can encourage people to use this symbol?

i agree 100%!
But not in General.
There should be another section only for links from youtube (and other sources) as koella said, because there are so many youtube links posted.

A links section would be good. The best part of this foro is to see Todd, Florian, Ron or any member play their own stuff or Pdl,Gerardo,Tomatito stuff etc.

Not to see the original artist play it.(witch of course is very nice as well) so a links section would be good.

i feel like the upload ratio has gone down since you can find everything on youtube now a days.

so instead of makeing their own vid people upload a link to Tomatito playing or something..well..i´ll shut it now ..back to my vino

Henrik

I honestly don't get what is the big deal. See Paco or Vicente play makes folks not want to play or post? Sorry I dont' get it. Earlier when Todd and some other guy posted some good playing, some folks felt we needed a special section for only beginner members to upload. Can't we just face there are ALL different levels from beginner to Paco, and no one is as good as Paco, but we all fall somewhere in the middle, and either inspire one an other or try to help others with advice?

But whatever you guys want. I just think that making a special section probably won't inspire a huge influx of student audio/video posts. Perhaps folks are afraid to get advice? Just say "I don't want any criticism or advice. Please just enjoy hearing where I am at". simple. Anyway, I know that once again my feelings are the minority, but whatever you guys decide is cool.

Well, i dont think that the reason why most of us want a seperation is that seeing paco in the same section crushes our motivation (that was what Ron said).

For me the reason why i think a seperation would be good is simply the fact that we would have a much better organisation and overview.

It is the same in our PC. We put and seperate our files in many different directorys and categories (own recordings, professional recordings, documents, etc.). Thats it.

it is no big deal Ricardo, the videos are fine, but we can get the best of both worlds, the Paco and Vicente videos will keep coming nothing really changes people who wanna see em still can ofcourse, but i enjoy members uploads also they have gonne down alot since the Links, so if this dosent effect the Paco videos at all, its not gonna hurt any of us to try something different to mibe encourage a litlle change, expecially if theres nothing to lose.
there is no downside

Paco.. I know he can do it, i love seeing it but i expect him to, dosent surprisse me anymore, but this days I get more inspired when one of us does something great, expecially when i have seen him grow as a guitarist over the years it encourages me, it drives me, it makes me think, "yes. hes one of us mibe i can do it too".
I dont think it has anything to do with fake illusions of where we are as guitarists.

I even uploaded Pacos Niquelao, next to my "version", so that people can compare. Its more a motivation. IMO its easier to upload next to Paco, than fellow members. Critisicm is so important everybody underestimates it. Not competition, critisicm.

I think there's a big difference between you (or other good players ) posting a video or some member posting a link next to my post.
The posts in which members play temselves are very personal and motivating.
The link-posts, however, almost feels like a comment: "see nitwit ? This is how it's down. Now stop posting those silly attempts and get a life "
Meanwhile the link-posting member doesn't show anything from himself, so it's something like the cruise missiles: Shooting people while you stay out of range yourself.

Yes I'm exagerating but I'm a very sensitive person.

ok ... but how do you vote

noone is arguing the importance of feedback, that is perhaps exactly why we should change things, so that other members may find it eazyer to join in therfore get feedback.

just saying , "dont worry about criticism its good for you , wont change anything" making this litlle changes just might.

The members audio posts have gonne down Alot, thats a fact, if anyone has got better reasons or actual ideas on how we might fix it i am open to anything.

i dont know all the reasons, but we can sit back and say " It'l be allright" and watch it go on the same or we could try to think of litlle ways that wont inconvinience any of us so that mibe we could make it better.

but i am also just 1 member, 1 vote, so whatever the majority agrees with il respect.

Ricardo man, I'm not getting at you...but sometimes I think that you look at things from where you are now, not from where you once were....

Everything is obvious once you know it....compás, rhythm, technique etc.
As I said..I'm not getting at you, but we are all sentient beings here...

I suppose we all want a bit of a bit of a slap on the back for something we've worked hard at and feel a little bit proud about...even if it's just playing some rhythm compás for Soleares that eluded us before, but we've finally just got and want to show/share the exuberation with other members, since family and friends are not really interested that much...

I for one would not want to upload a few crappy bulerias falsetas for comment and have the next post a link to that Vincente's Bulerias!

I think you are a great player and really great at explaining stuff, but I would agree that your feelings are in the minority (as you admit) but most of us are much less secure than that...fear of making a fool of yourself etc.

I joined the Forum within the first few days of Escribano getting it up and running and I must seriously say that I found the amateur uploads incredibly inspiring as opposed to the out-of this-world superhuman stuff from the few exponents I was hearing on CD's.
I could listen to folk having the same problems in the same places I had!

This was a far better learning experience IMO, than listening to a perfect virtuoso rendition from a famous professional.

I'm not saying your point of view is wrong Ricardo, but I think a little empathy with the beginners and intermediate students here and their personal feelings as just ordinary human beings would not be bad also.

Hope you see what I'm saying man...please don't take offence and post a smartass answer or stuff just to be right.

We're all in the same boat, but at different stages.

So my view is that juxtaposing members own uploads with World famous professionals is not a good thing.

cheers,

Ron

RE: On Audio/Video uploads (in reply to Ron.M

To me, the separation between member videos/audio and famous player links (etc) is a good idea because it makes it easier to overview what members are doing, and each member post gets a bit more attention if it isn't bogged down between all kinds of other links, that is.. .members posts will stay visible for feedback longer.. and those interested in other links and audio will also benefit from better organization.

Smartass answer just to be right? Gee, who would take offense to that?

Like I said, whatever you guys decide is cool. Guess it is a touchy subject, so I will let my opinions lie low. How about some bumping of forum member posts? And some feedback from fellow members who feel so strong about this?

lol... cmon man a blind man can see that Ron likes you and respects you, i hope u are beeing sarcastic and arent honestly affected by that remark... he is scotish ..they are the only people that when they curse someone out, (when u do figure out what they are saying ) instead of getting offended you burst out loughing cause it sounds so funny and cute

I always try to make my Scotish friends here angry ... they ready to kill me and i wanna hug em

as for the thread, i dont think this is a toucy subject at all, its just a subject, and we are discussing it, absoluteley anyones input is wanted and apreciated.

On the other hand, Ron or Simon could have just done it without asking our opinion, but i think its nice that we are beeing asked and we are discussing it.

And i dont belive that u or anyone has to lai theyr opinions low, i mean that is why Ron made this post to begin with, to get everyone's opinion, u cant make it any more fair than that.

I dont vote because i dont see a problem. I think NOBODY compares any member with Pdl, Vicente,... only because they are in the same section of the foro. Otherwise wouldnt moving Youtube links not result in more competition between members? Coz then its your name after mine, and not after Vicente.

So, its not really world-moving. It would be only more organized.
